Nobody has yet disagreed with 'the law of averages'.
Shooting more video, guarantees more good footage. Every time.
Ignorance of this law is no excuse.
The same doesn't apply to editing.

Learning the tricks that eliminate the need for editing, should be strived for.

Still waiting for somebody with enough experience to add a few pointers
that would help make my argument

Video tip #7
Don't listen to editors, they all appear to be full of themselves.

can I just throw this out there ( and I dont know if it has already been said) but do you know of ANY major production (or for that matter minor production - barring porn) that is Unedited? I certainly dont. these people have money, time and people. yet they continue to edit, why? because they're fucking right and your a fucking moron!!

I don't know about you guys but with the boys and I its not like we're "lights camera action" and we put on some play and do some stunt, "thats a wrap" and go home, we kinda actually do this shit (more stunts and better stunts and skits and events that we've done are off film because we actually are messed up like this now) so theres like tons of talking and laughing and joking in between, not alot of it that makes it to the screen for obvious reasons. editing is very neccessary unless its a not very group involved, lively stunt where its like something Dan G would do (not a diss to him hear me out) where its just a quick self inflicted self filmed thing, not a big group shot and shit where we're all hanging out and then someone smashes a bunch of tiles over someone elses nuts with a sledgehammer (haha that whole event just mad a 1 second intro clip). it depends on your stunt and depends on how you're group of buds is, but I think for the most part, if you consider yourself a true entertainer, its worth going the extra mile to make it "more watchable" for the audience

What's wrong with strongly making the point that editing video
isn't a prerequisite for having a digital Camcorder.

I've shot plenty of video with Mini DVD camcorder.
Close to 400 hours of raw unedited video.

People should be able to shoot short clips and never edit anything.

simple hypothetical: what if you can only afford a shit camera which is slightly broken and everything has a red tint to it, would it not then make sense to edit out the red somehow?

God damn, this guy is the best thing to happen to Homegrown since Buck got banned. As to the whole idea that editing is unimportant, especially when you have six hours of skunks nailing eachother in the foliage. All I can say is that I have no talent in editing and no talent in filming but I do have experience in watching stuff. I know that something edited is far more entertaining than going through boring clip after boring clip of animal porn; I want to go straight to monkey money shots I don't need to see the monkey courting his chimp lover. It's like what Adem said, so perfectly, so clearly. You're barkin' up the wrong tree, old man. You're looking for someone to confide in, a group of people to share your dinosaur skin with, you're not at Discoverychannel.com or NatGeo.org. We don't give a shit about you or what you do or how you do it.

Here's a Tip from the Untrained Forum Kid that Knows the Difference Between Dinosaur Skin and Tree Bark-

Try to do a little reading before you post in an unfamiliar forum, do what you can to understand what you're doing before you do it. Think before you post.

After all that videoing at work, you probably need a break.
On your off hours try a walkabout.
Outside with your camcorder ready.
Shoot short clips of anything interesting.
Tunnel vision isn't good for anybody.

Not if you wanna actually get somewhere with film making.

"Hey Mr Film Distributor, here's my video. It's 400 hours long because editing is like Santa Clause and I don't beleive in it."

I'm not too keen on unedited video myself, I prefer to watch something that's edited well as it makes the difference between an alright clip and something spectacular.

In conclusion; An unedited video is an unfinished video.

You are a stubborn bunch. I thought I'd be banned by now.

The general public is'nt as enthused about the state of TV and Movies.
There is nothing new with your editing ideas. We've seen it all.
And it's way more crap than you'd think.

I'm sure this group would sooner watch a movie about a football game
over the real thing. The longest yard doesn't touch the superbowl.

The unedited video I'd like to see "daily" is 15 minutes in the life of
a bushman/woman. The flowers the wildlife the special places etc.
Unedited unstaged and no fabrications just their life hi-lites.

I've had people over and played some my outdoor and wildlife video.
They pretty well ignored the TV in the corner.

When he says highlights he means they've sat through 4 hours of shit and eventualy a pigeon sneezes and their like "something actually happened, thank fuck."

Maybe your the one whos ignorant. You've come to this forum, trying to force your views on a bunch of people who as their hobby, film and EDIT. The stuff that gets filmed here is not stuff that can just be left untouched. This is not a site full of bird lovers, this is stunt groups, skit groups, and all sorts of other things. These videos need editing.

Stop trying to make the world see everything your way. Fair enough YOU don't think editing is important. YOU film things that don't need editing. FINE. But we do. So just shut up please.
