The ''Last Movie You Watched'' Thread

Have only seen the trailers for it, but they put me off enough.

Fucking. Devastating. I've never come to the end of a movie feeling more pissed off at the world.

So good, though. Definitely recommended.

Adem, I don't see at all how you could consider it racist, though? It's not glorifying what happened in the Holocaust. It's not justifying Nazi Germany's actions at all. As a matter of fact, it seemed awfully condemning of it all. The leader of the Death Camp had something horrible happen to him because of his own neglect and blind jingoism. The purest characters (Bruno, his mom, and grandmother) are all questioning of their country's actions. It by no means is offensive to Jews, I think you might have taken it all the wrong way if you think it is.

It's definitely not a Nazi-handbook. It's not a celebration of the Holocaust, it's a mourning for the senseless death and hatred. It's a tribute to the noble and the pure. It's hopeful in the aspect that the children did not know why they should hate each other, but they're just told that they do. They don't feel the hate at all, even though it's all around them. They do an accurate job of portraying the brainwashing that the citizens of Germany underwent at that time from the propaganda, and they did a great job of not simply discounting every German person as a soulless bag of hatred. They were all complicated people, and the movie shows that.

Now, if it had simply just shown every German person as a ruthless hate machine, then I'd feel deprived and deceived, but they were delicate with handling every person depicted in the film.

I've just never seen the holocaust presented like that. I just remember shit from history books and never took interest cause it was something that happened years ago and I was stupid in high school.

And I break down every movie I watch. That's why 300 made me so angry. I think too much about movies and unimportant things.

oh no, I liked it a lot. I was just amazed at the content portrayed in it. I never expected it to be so open.

it was early and when I read what you said I felt like I was being called out but I used racist in a light form. mainly because I read how some people were actually offended by the movie, not by my actual outlook.. let me quote this guy:

Absolutely hillarious for what it was. Classic american teen movie about trying to get laid, but fuck me, I was seriously lolling my ass off.

I would definitely reccomend.

Changeling - not usually the kind of movie that appeals to me but it was really good. So fucked up to think it was a true story.

I didn't really catch on to what that guy was saying. I think he took what they were talking about at the dinner literally. I took it as them just trying to portray the mindset of hatred towards the Jewish people that the German people had after years of being told the Jews were the reason for all of their problems. Scapegoating is easy and effective when things are miserable, and that's what I took that scene as.

The boy in the striped pyjamas. One of the most disturbing/moving films I've ever seen. In a well shitty mood now. Cheers ray.

American Beauty - Actually the first time I'd seen it, I can see now why everyone raved about it. Spacey will always be one of my favourites and this bittersweet role just further proves it. Great movie.

Probably my favourite film, it's so amazing.

Cashback - it's just fucking great, one of those hidden gems you never hear of, then it's one of the best movies you've ever seen. Could easily watch it again, fifteen minutes after it finished. One of the few geniuinely funny movies out there that finds humour in the simple things we can all relate to, like passing time at work or riding a cardboard box down the stairs. It's brilliant, end of.

Watched The Wackness, was alright but expected more from the hype people give it on here. Couldn't really get into Josh's character because I can only picture him as that stupid fat kid off Nickelodeon.

I didn't even know it was that kid till someone told me.

Cloverfield and Children of Men.

I don't need to even make mention of how good they are.
