I edit because my camera is always rolling... I never want to miss a shot.. I couldnt watch an hour long un edited clip of someones party just to see like 5 good bits and if you add the right song it can make the video twice as good..
Here is an example of very simple editing..
Joe's 19th B-day Partyyeah whos going to watch 3 hours of shit for 10 minutes of good footage.

I completely agree that awesome footage is best unedited. If you capture something truly awesome on tape, I want to see it in its natural state without any flashy effects or overlaying music.

There is so much more that video can be used for besides movie making.
2 years ago I too my camcorder to an area where dinosaur bones were known
to exist. Within 4 hours there I found dinosaur skin. Videoed it in right
away. Then last summer we returned there to look for more skin and bone.
Didn't find much but did video the riverbank, at the highest optical zoom
examining it later for dino sign (in slow motion)
Again no editing.
Another expedition there later this summer.
Video will be posted immediately so that it is fresh. (not stale)

practice being fast, very fast with your camcorder.
I videoed in the native fastball championships last summer.
I was just down from first base at the fence.
The optical zoom was set so that the pitcher would nicely fit.
I'd start recording just before the throw and followed the 10 to 15 foot
jump ahead that the pitchers made and even more quickly moved the camera
to home plate. Beating it there, just before the swing.
All by not looking in the camera. Just by looking down the barrel of
the camcorder.
If there was a swing and a miss I'd terminate the clip.
If you shoot shots that are beyond editing. Ie the content
you were looking for is there. What's to edit.
The LCD screen was useless with the sun over my shoulder
I couldn't have followed the play by using the eyepiece.

Native's sniff gas from plastic bags to get high, they also drink metalic colour paint. So if you want to film something cool I suggest you tie a bag of gas to a tree limb and cover the tree in fecies.. then wach as the indians get coverd in shit and fight to the death for free gas..
