Do you guys use straps for deadlifts? I find my left hands actual grip on the bar cannot exceed around 90KG (180lbs) @ 6 reps. Thinking of getting straps

Nah man don't do it just learn to deal with the weight it's hard but you'll get used to it quick just grip for your fucking life. Good for the forearms too I find!

I deadlifted 140kg for 2 sets of 5 and 150kg for a set of 5 after that yesterday.

I am all that is man, my hands are bleeding!

Damn dude, my hands have never bled from deadlifts, and the last time I did em my last set was 280lbs x 5. I just get really bad blisters.

What's that in Kg? Yeh I normally just get blisters but one of em tore off lol.

Yeah, I was glad, too. My room mate loves the Packers, and he acts like a douche about it. I was a huge Cowboys fan last night. Even though I couldn't watch the game since it was the NaziFL Network.

No way, it'll hurt like hell at first, but that's good, soon you'll be able to handle heavier weight no problem.

280 pounds = 127.005864 kilograms

That's weird that your hands bled though, because I've seen my friend do 405 and it didn't even seem to bother him.

My right hand is okay, I've been lifting for around 6 months and I always find that after doing heavy sets, even with dumbell curls, after a few reps my left hand tires out and I cannot squeeze at all. By not squeeze, there is no power left when I try squeeze anything, so when I lift, shit just starts falling out of my left hand. So frustrating, my right hand is absolutely fine. Although, the forearm workout is great as you say.

Pain is no problem for me, I am used to excessive pain walking after doing several heavy leg press sets, or the pain of any other body workout day. Pain is good, I just can't physically hold the bar with my left hand Image file not present in the recovered backup

Yeh I think I get what you mean and if you're just starting out using freeweights properly you haven't developed your stabiliser muscles which help to keep the weight fixed and you to keep proper form, maybe try dropping the weight just for a bit untill you can get out the reps comfortably with good form on both hands then up it again.

May seem like you're taking a step back but it's obviously too much weight for you to handle as you haven't developed kinaesthesis for the movements or your stabiliser muscles yet and untill you sort that out you'll continue to struggle.

Once you get the form fine you'll be able to stack on the weight easy its just a pain in the arse to get used to man! Don't worry about it though everyone got it a bit when they started and you'll sort it out.

Cheers man

Another thing, seeing as I've been bulking for like 5 months I have a far amount of unwanted body fat ( 8 kilos more or less of it). I would like to start a 5 week cutting program to get lean then seriously start bulking up again, as fat loss and muscle gain are 2 contradictory factors playing on my mind at the moment and I'd like to be able to see more of my abs.

I've decided on HIIT for my cutting up regime, however I'd like to minimize muscle mass loss in the process. Before HIIT, I have some complex carbs such as oatmeal and slow digesting protein, such as cottage cheese an hour before intense cardio. After an intense HIIT session, is it true that it is best to wait an hour afterwards to eat to maximize fat loss, or should I have a protein shake afterwards to ensure that muscle loss is avoided? Also, is it a good idea to have some protein before bed, or not eat anything for 3 - 4 hours before bed to ensure it doesn't convert to fat?

Cheers

Good stuff on the high intensity interval training I have an awesome program for that we got given here for rugby at uni basically just a hypertrophy program aimed at increasing density.

In terms of getting lean a lot of it will be based on your nutrition, but it sounds like you're eating right as it is, if you're trying to lose body fat start to eat less carbohydrates if you can and if you do eat them make it a small amount of complex carbs like you say.

The reason you need to eat less carbs is because it's stored as glucose which is the main provider of energy during anaerobic expercise, once these are depleted fats are used. So the less carbs you're storing the sooner you'll use fat to create ATP aka energy. Which means greater losses in fat.

In answering your q's I'm using mainly personal experience and what I've been told over the years and it may not be correct but it's what's been working for me.

I normally try to get a shake in 10-20 minutes after a session at the most, because after exercise your body takes in protein a lot more easily. If you're trying to lose fat maybe get a supplement like microwhey which has a very very low carb content and a high protein content (Micro whey by reflex is what I was on after my operation to cut down to a normal size again and it worked wonders it has 0 carbs and all protein)

You may want to eat a meal with some carbs though to replenish the energy you have used during the exercise because you'll need to restore your glycogen levels.

As a whole I eat whenever and as often as possible but this is because I'm trying to put on as much weight as possible and I put on hardly any body fat as it is so I can afford to eat whenever I want as I need loads of calories.

However if you are eating late try to eat less carbs and more protein again if fat burning is what you're looking for.

It's kind of a reoccuring pattern but the most important thing is nutrition and from what I've heard from you it seems like you've got a good idea of what you need to be eating. At the moment like I say I'm eating about 6-8 meals a day packed full of carbs proteins and natural fats cause I need as many calories in as I can to keep growing. It's been nice haha but good luck bud it's hard work. If you want me to send you that program hit me up on msn but it is really really hard work.
