alot of britsih actors or comics do tend to be ugly bland avagrage people but who actually have talent, so they find themselfs not judge on looks like in the US, find their way infront of a camera and their tv caeerer is born. in most cases anyway some bad acts slip through the cracks and get their own shows *cough* catherine tate */cough*

yeah, I think we have a society based less on looks and appearance than in the states and that is reflected in our television with actors/comedians judged purely on substance and not the way they look.
