and how the fuck do you capture HDV? I just capture a blackscreen when I try.
yeah for consumers, the hc1 has been the best by far, and I dunno about that black screen thing, I use mac, so I dunno how to capture to pc if thats what you use.

the hc3 has this dumbass little dial that is hard to use cause of the mear size of it, I love the focus wheel on the hc1, so good!!!!!!! I havent had any issues with the zoom, just touchy backlighting.

I also want the new imac aswell so Imm be broke for cash unless I can find a place to finanse an hc1, witch I dout.
EDIT 2: if anyone can find a place that will finanse a Sony HVR-V1U, I will love them for ever.

no not auto zoom. ok go get your HC1 and turn it on. get a shot so you have to objects at each side of the screen, like a tv screen or a bed and something else on the other side. keep watching that image then flick it to photo mode. if the images move away like you've just taken 2-3steps back then thats what im talking about.
now if I use a fisheye lens, because the cameras focus/view whatever isnt pulled back as far as normal cameras it turns a round fisheye shot into a wideangle shot. just like if you zoomed 15x into a fisheye lens on a normal camera.
im wondering if they fixed this problem with the HC3/5/7/9??
could ya'lls with them models have a check?

ok I get it now, all I can say is thats what it does, it seems to cut off the tops and bottoms of the view in a type of letterboxing way, and yeah I use a wide angle lens, not a fish eye though, and yes I get the same effect with the hc3 aswell. Its seems to that everything is shot to 16:9 wide.

ummm I dunno, I havent tried shooting anything in sd on these hdv cams, yeah we have so much in smarties(sd 4:3) lol but just resize images to match and just dont really care if they look square and or rectangular,lol.

prob not, I dont mess around much with that stuff, which I really should do, cuz I find my colors are bland 2, and my zoom and night shots to be grainy. actually I find alot to be grainy, how do I go by fixing this??

Adjusting the exposure and shutter speed are really important. Actually, they are the only controls I really use, plus white balance.
In dark environments a shutter speed of 60-90 usually works. In the day you can crank it up to whatever looks good. I only mess with the exposure when it's dark. Just tweak it until what you see through the cam looks like what you see with your eyes and doesn't have grain.

Its improved on the HC7, as in, its the same camera for the footage it produces.
Go for the lower cost because it's the same thing at the end of the day unless you need manual focus without a little dial wheel.
Save yourself some money.
Manual focus is 100% necessary. Plus without a focus ring you cant stick a follow focus on it etc.

I still film stuff in 4:3. I did a spanish tv pilot and they wanted it in 4:3 because it was for spanish broadcast.
