Will You Be Buying The Ps3?

Apparently the PS3 is going to set one back £400 / $800.

While this seems very pricey for a "console", the PS3 is not "just" a console. The PS3 is more of a family entertainment center, with some very nice features indeed. To grasp the true value of the PS3 one must consider the PS3's blueray capabilities, it is indeed a full featured blueray player and some of the most basic blueray players can burn a hole in your pocket of $999 for a lower end model. Considering this, the PS3 is already a bargain, then we have to consider the amazing 512MB of DDR2 graphics, the 3.2 GHz cell processor and the many other features packed into the PS3.

So, the PS3 is generally a bargain. However, as Sony seem to be aiming toward the hardcore enthusiast with these specifications and pricetag, it's not in budget for your regular bored teenager. Ultimately the PS3 can run on actual operating systems such as Linux due to it's architecture which I believe is X86, this could prove to be damaging to Sony as they'll most likely will make a loss on each unit however plan on recouping their losses through game revenue. Now assuming the PS3 is such a great multimedia unit, why wouldn't your general hardcore enthusiast purchase a unit and load an alternative OS such as XP? This could be risky for Sony.

Anyway, what's your thoughts on the PS3? Originally I wasn't very keen on it as the PS2 proved to be sold simply on brand popularity, the graphics were inferior compared to units that could almost be classed as legacy machines such as the Dreamcast and the "emotion engine" was little more than marketing hype. I think Sony have delivered a unit which is superior to that of the 360 which in itself is rather speccy. However, is the PS3 little more than a PC with a shitty OS preloaded onto it?

I will if I have the money to spend and if there is a game I NEED to own. I just got a 360 and I think its perfect, the images anit like ps3 quality but its not choppy like some ps2 games...very smooth and loads of fun, I think ill stick with this awhile before buyin a new console, im also intrested in the wii, lots like fun and loading past nintendo games is what id just buy it for. all the nes/snes/64 games I miss I can get again :-)

Wouldn't consider the Wii Webby, it's basically a slighly improved version of the gamecube with less titles currently.

I'm gonna be getting one. I'll be saving for a few months to get it though, and probably will have to run with 2 games for about half a year due to the money I would've blown on the actual console.

I may get my mum to chip in a small fraction and call it an updated DVD player. We need one.

Good thread G, where the fuck have you been? Been missing your old '///Discuss' thang.

It would certainly be nice, it seems like it has so many features you can't afford not to have one. But I have no money, so it's unlikely :-(

I probably wont be getting one since I have an xbox 360, yet I'm sure it would still be great to have.

I wont get it as soon as it comes out wait atleast 4 months till it drops a healthy £50/$100 then I will defo get it, I remember before the ps2 came out people were moaning about the price...but in the future ps4 will set us back around £500-£800 easily, the tecnology is so high in these machines that they cant sell it any cheaper. If you look at the ps3 they are selling it for a low price, playstation are taking the risk of going bankcrupt, as the console should be around £500-£800 ($1000) to make a little profit, but they KNOW they will make the money back with sponsorships and the huge variaty of game sales around the world!

SO YEAH Il buy 1!

I might get it when the price is reasonable, but now I need a new computer before I go buying a next gen system. The wii looked cool to me before, but now it looks kinda lame. All old games can be played on your comp, and aside from the new Zelda, the games don't appeal to me. XBOX 360 looks like the best for me, if the price ever drops, since a lot of my friends play xbox live.

$600 is just too much for me to waste on entertainment. I'd have to play a shitload of games to make myself feel like I didn't waste my money. Plus, like the PS2 when it first came out, I'm sure the ps3 will have tons of problems that they'll need to work out. I'll wait until it's completely stable and cheap enough for the average person.

True that. Xbox Live really is worth the buy when you get it. 50 dollars once a year. Cheap. And everything you get with it is great and it's reliable. PS2 should've done that long ago.

I just got a 360, so no.. I won't be getting a ps3, atleast not within the next 3 or 4 years.

as for the Wii, my girlfriend is getting one of those, and the new zelda, I think that alone makes the Wii worthy.

I actually read they're only going to release 20 classic titles a week, so it'll take a while before you can actually get the games you want. That's another thing that made me not want the wii anymore.

fire red shells on mario kart

Haha that brings back some serious memories, or when the other person gets ghost and becomes invisible.... just give a sly look into their screen to see them.

Oh the fun I had playing that game.

- On topic, I'll be getting a ps3 for sure.

I think the 360 is well worth the money. I didn't want to get one at first, then I saw dead rising and had to play it, so I got it, and I've loved every game I've played on it so far.

21 October 2006, 02:15 UTC#27
Thanks Wilbur for the advice, but they still cost 30-40 which is still much unless it's a great game, like fight night round 3 which I want, but I'm willing to wait for a better deal even on ebay I watch for the ideal auction. Yeah 100 dollars is Way out of line!

Yeah but then if u get caught it's worse then just buying it to begin with, weather it is stealing from the internet or stores. Because you get a criminal record and you have to pay so much money for court, but if u could somehow steal them from the internet I doubt you'd get caught.
