I need someone to convince me that it was as good as everyone says it is. I had trouble figuring out what the emphasis was supposed to be on in that movie. There were too many small things going on and nothing major. Day Lewis was awesome but the movie itself left me a little meh. I mean what was that movie about!? Other than guy strikes oil, guy becomes rich, guy has emotional issues, guy goes crazy, guy kills man. And whoops SPOILERS sorry..

It's mostly about Daniel's conflict with God. The entire time he is doing everything in his ability to smite God and do things on his own, despite Eli's constant pestering. He takes a phony baptism in the second half of the film when he is basically forced to say that he abandoned his son. He did all of that just so he could get money. The conversation at the end between Daniel and his son was so good (I won't give it away, but you get what I mean.) It's about the obscene lengths a man will go to for wealth. The final scene where Eli denounces his faith just before getting killed is so powerful, I don't see how anyone could dislike it. The theological struggle throughout all of it was the primary conflict in my eyes. And I guess I can't really think of anything of more weight than that during that time period (and today).
Edit - Crowdshocka, Waiting was a terrible film. Dane Cook is not funny.

Don't get me wrong I didn't dislike it, I just found it a little boring and too dragged, but then again I have a shallow taste in movies sometimes, I'll admit to that.
I did get all those scenes that you were so awed by, it's not that, but I just found them too obvious, preachy and redundantly moralizing lol
I mean we got it that he was gonna disown his son sooner or later and the baptism part was so obvious that it was strictly business for him too. I found his relationship to his son being more of a master/apprentice relationship than a father/son relationship from the start. Ah well I guess there's something wrong with me because I was disappointed both by NCFOM and TWBB

28 March 2008, 04:37 UTC#1,858
Sorry Drew, but, just by watching the movie, you can tell he's gonna die... He looks older than dirt. His neck skin hangs down to his knees and you can't understand a thing he says.

I absolutely fucking hate DANE COOK, I've not heard a modicum of humor expelled from that sphincter he calls a mouth... Even his stand up sucks ass sooooo bad, and is plagiaristic.
Waiting Had potential, But shot it's wad .
28 March 2008, 04:59 UTC#1,860
Waiting was alright, but Dane Cook stand-up is fucking horrible... He's kinda funny when you watch him live, but just hearing him, it makes you want to kill yourself after hearing that bullshit.
