Did you like it?
I was sucked in the whole time, except I was ticked that it didn't explain why they suddenly started dying.
28 December 2005, 02:38 UTC#2
They kinda explained, but I forgot the explination, since I saw it when it first was in theaters...
It blew though, everyone should've died.
Oh yeah, here's the old thread:

Cool, thanks.
When I was watching it, it just seemed like a dead end or an easy way out, but it was definitely different.

WHY DID THEY FUCKING DIE?!!?!?! THAT PISSED ME OFF SO BAD!

cause it's a steven spielberg movie, he has to always have happy endings, I wanna be in one where I have cancer and they have chuck norris suck it out. what a happy ending.

Glad you made this thread...as I just watched it and was looking to talk about how gay it was. I used to think the fact that a movie was directed by Steven Spielberg meant something, but after seeing this it really doesnt meanshit. It was a PG-13 fucking piece of shit. They zapped humans apart but there wasnt a 1 drop of blood. No cussing. No violence. How can he make Saving Private Ryan and say "war movies arent meant to be PG-13" and then make an apocolyptic movie and expect it to come off realistic without a drop of blood and without using the word "fuck".
Aside from that...the whole plot was weak. It didnt show the big picture. It never got interesting. I couldnt stand that young screaming cunt. POS.
28 December 2005, 03:01 UTC#7
I loved this movie, purely for the great animation involved in it. The actual plot sucked, and had many holes.
28 December 2005, 03:02 UTC#8
as I work in a video store, I watch aroudn 5-8 dvds a week easily and I was really looking forward seeign the dvd when it came out as I dotn like cinemas really as how expensive they are! So I got it out and watched it with my gf, a erally ahted it, WAY TO MANY FUCKING EFFECTS and the ending was absolutely shite, the aliens caught a cold, well they got cold and fuckign died, pile of shite!

Haha.
Yeah that little girl kept freaking out, and looking at that, she is a damn good little girl actress, but it got kind of crazy. It was like this hard buildup for me and no climax, just BOOM, the end, their dead. Sort of like JARHEAD. But the buildup for that was a bit lacking.
28 December 2005, 03:06 UTC#10
the shit where the son was all "I have to go dad, I have to see for myself" .....wtf was that about? That was so retarded.

Yeah, even if it meant aliens eating him. Which how he found his way to his mother is beyond me.
28 December 2005, 03:27 UTC#12
I thought they were spraying people's blood out all over the place, and it was making viens and shit?!
it looked like blooood?
28 December 2005, 03:35 UTC#13
yeah, there was gallons of blood!!
28 December 2005, 06:04 UTC#14
They explain it at the end of the movie; its the same ending as the book.
Humans built up a natural immunity to the zillions of toxic microbes and bacterias on this planet ("we earned the right to live here") whereas the aliens were slowly poisoned by our planet
Its sort of our planets defense mechanism against alien invaders -- anybody who invades will die from the bacterias and microbes in our atmosphere
28 December 2005, 08:07 UTC#15
I thought that movie was awesome but the ending sucked cock.
Especially when his son lived through running into the massive ball of fire or whatever.
And the fact that that no one gave a shit about those other people being eaten by the machines and then as soon as Tom Cruise was being pulled in, they were like OMG TOM CRUIZE IS GUNNA DIE.
But yeah it was pretty good movie but full of cliche bullshit.
28 December 2005, 08:39 UTC#16
Haven't you people read the book?

I agree, the part where they started dying sucked. Everything happened too fast and all of a sudden, the movie ended.. I know, that's how the story goes, but still they could've put a little more effort in the ending
28 December 2005, 08:41 UTC#17
I was watching it in the cinema thinking this is gonna be one fucking long movie when bang they just started dying...at 1st I thought cos the birds were sat on them I thought it was something in the birdshit that made their shields drop but no...it was a cold

28 December 2005, 08:42 UTC#18
Did the book have the same story line...like the whole thing with the family trying to get to their mom....or was that just Spielbergs magic?

I think there was just a man trying to get to his wife who he had left behind in the book version. The story line is pretty much the same although heavily modified to present time and to USA. It's a while since I read the book though.

Was a great film, dying of bacteria and shit from earth was realistic (well as realistic as it could be) but so shit. They were going to change the name to "out of the night" stupid fucking Speilburg.

Well the story is over a 100 years old..
28 December 2005, 11:59 UTC#22
I liked the movie...
Had some good actors in it aswell. Tom Cruise was great as the fuck up dad. Tim Robbins was convincing as the father who lost his head(btw have you seen the version where you actually se the acutal scene where tom cruise's charachter kills him?) Some holes in the plot as gman said... but I didnt let that bother me... Visual effects&animation were awesome.
It was very entertaining! and Tom Cruise was good

not as good as in Collateral but still good.
28 December 2005, 14:28 UTC#23
I enjoyed small parts of this movie, but overall I thought it was just another steamy log of shit that Spielberg pinched out and then fed to you with huge amounts of hype.
The camera hardly ever strayed from Tom Cruise at all. There's big, fuck-off alien machines pumping heat rays at thousands of terrified motherfuckers, thus making a fantastic viewing experience, but all we're seeing on the screen is this dip-shit bumbling around a basement with some other schmuck playing paper, scissors, rock to figure out who's turn it is to fistfuck the daughter. His son somehow survives an almost apocalyptic explosion, then they all magically meet up at the end for biscuits, tea and a yarn about old times. The story is about an almost annihilation of earth but for some reason Spielberg thought he'd try and market it at women so it seems.
I'd read the books years ago and also owned Jeff Wayne's musical version cd growing up, while some of the songs were pretty cheesy, their perspective on the story was much more enjoyable than what Hollywood served up both times.

They show the decapitation?
They cut that out in the theater version for me

I still haven't seen this movie... is it worth a look?

Oooh makes sense, I guess I wasn't paying attention when they said that, and no I never read the book. It wasn't required in my english class, and I never took it upon myself to check it out.

28 December 2005, 15:40 UTC#27
They died because they hadn’t built an immune system.. As the voice over said something like "humans have lost millions of lives etc " to build a defence against micro bacteria.. That’s why they Died
Just noticed this point has already been made.. o well.

This may have already been said in the thread, but they all died because of the parasites in the water, it sounds ghey but its the truth.
But the litttle girl fucking ruined
28 December 2005, 16:42 UTC#29
I really liked it. When I finnished watching it in the cinima I felt like the whole world ended. Was so damn real.
I dont care if it was not all fact... but aliens landing on Earth is not real so who gives a shit... its a movie.
its one of the only movies taht made me think it had happened... Only Matrix and Signs did this.
Loved it... only Christmas prez I liked also

28 December 2005, 17:11 UTC#30
