Ok, I've read this whole thread, and I've seen the dvd in question. What Roel has done here is the equivalent of what a DJ does with samples and audio clips. That is: take existing material and edit and remix it into something new. I'm honestly rather shocked that some of you guys don't seem to be down with that concept, since it's hardly anything new. Roel has taken clips from nearly a thousand sources here, ranging throughout all kinds of media, and jumbled it all up and pooped out something.... well fuck, surely I don't have to explain the concept of "sampling", do I??

(By the way, I'm the one that wrote "jackass wannabes" as part of that description which Roel reprinted here, and it pertains not to any specific clip or dvd, but to quickly conveying the idea of cool homemade clips of guys hurting themselves in popular language anyone can understand. If you're picking apart the semantics of the description, then you're desperately searching for something to get pissed about.)

If he was simply taking someones entire product and bootlegging it just to make a buck, yeah... that is grounds for saying "Fuck you loser". But what this is, the intent behind the project (to recreate a modern version of the awesome vhs mixtapes that were traded around amongst video collectors in the '80s), and the small scale that it's being done at? Ftttt... nigga please. Like Roel already mentioned, it's silly and hypocritical to rage about something like this when every type of footage is being shared and exploited upon in MASSIVE scale all across the net.

Let's get real here.... No one who happens to have a few seconds of their footage show up in this 2 hour collection of clips is going to lose ANYTHING, financial or otherwise because of it -- and like the video mixtapes of old (with clips such as Bud Dwyer ventilating his head) it may even get traded and circulated enough to do it's tiny part in making some of the footage legendary within the video underground.
