I so wish this would happen in England.... But no instead the ywent and fucked up on issue. It sucks.

When I take my kid out for a meal even though I sit in the NO SMOKING area you can still smell the smoke and stuff...

And now in England its only if you serve FOOD. And because theres more cash made on drink then food everywhere will just stop serving food.

I know it sucks for the people who smoke... But I really do not give a shit about them (yeah Gaz we ahve had these talks biggrin.gif)

haha if every one quit smoking they would realise how much the rely on it, ciggs are one of the highest taxed things.

The national health service will save fuck loads of money on chemo, and other things that get caused by smoking, it would probably cut down the losses a lot. Why the fuck do you do it? There's no gain what so ever.

"Bars and Resturants"

Not streets.

It may be YOUR lungs
But if you're a non-smoker in a bar or resturant
and someone is smoking by you
you get the second hand smoke.

It's YOUR lungs, but at the same time it's OTHERS lungs.

lets ban all the cars then because on the streets your breathing in the fumes from their exhuast. just as bad. non smokers know there will be smokers in a pub. if they dont like it.. dont go there.

damn, u got a point there

No he doesn't cars are practical and help our everyday lives, for everyone, without cars or any other petrol fueled mode of transport our world would be fucked and we would not be able to get anywhere... Cars have a possitive effect on our lives, smoking does not. Image file not present in the recovered backup

I hope they stop it more over here, It's fucking disgusting when people sting of tar and fag, and get it all in your food and your hair and shit. It's the least attractive thing in the world with no gain all it does is cause people pain, And as for you saying it's their lungs, second hand smoke kills and all. Fucking hate smoking is a filthy stupid habbit.

I wish they'd hurry up and get it sorted here, the smell in pubs is horrible. I hate going for a couple of drinks and coming out smelling like Cuba hit by an A-bomb. There are a few non-smoking pubs, but they're few and far between.

I worked in a pub for 5 years and it started to proper fuck my chest up and gave me a nasty cough for a while, fortunately I don't work there anymore and it's cleared up.

That fact is, smoking is something you don't need to do, and it affects other people. It's like someone repeatedly farting in your general direction.

Apparently from (tomorrow?) Chicago are banning smoking from bars and restaurants. The whole fucking world seems to be adopting this policy now. Great if you don't smoke...shit if you do. What do you guys reckon??

Living in the suburbs of Chicago as I do, this has been all over the news the last year plus. It just scares the crap out of me. I am not for any big brother/governmental intrusion on what people can and cannot do. If a bar or other business wants to go smoke free, they should. If not, it is not the role of the government to force this. If enough of the public feels strong enough to ONLY want to go to smoke-free places, then smoking establishments will die off. Let the market-place rule.

They also want to ban fotte-gras (sp) goose livers, from being served here, and it is also all over the news. They also are trying to make it so that elephants are allowed a few acres each, so that when they come in a circus, the circus either needs to provide a huge amount of space or not use elephants in the exhibits. When is enough governmental intrusion enough?

We need less government, not more. We need government as it was set up in the US constitution, for powers of defense, banking, and emergency.

Blech.

So, you think because someone wants to smoke they should be allowed and we should take an idea of le sais fair? So say if we did take this view and someone came in and raped and robed your family. all jokes aside. And they said, well I wanted to do it so I did and the government did nothing you'd be pissed. I know this is a very extreme example and not very likely but saying things like the government shouldnt be allowed to tell us what to do is silly because unfortunatly we do need guidelines to tell us what to do otherwise we would have chaos and anarchy,.

Just read over it again, I get what he's saying actually about it should be optional for the pubs and stuff, I still think it should be stopped as much as possible but that's just because I'm so against it. Sorry for sounding like an arse

I smoke and I seriously think they should keep the ban, its way too harsh to be killing people around you when its not their choice, kill yourself all you want, but not other people. At least Chicago banning it everywhere, Britain have really fucked up their system and its not doing anything.

Well... yes and no.

Two points.

1. Yes. If a place wants to cater to smokers, or drinkers, or both or neither, it should be up to them. Smoking is a legal activity. If the public wants to go to places that allow smoking, or not allow smoking, then eventually if one is favored over the other to a high degree, then all places will go one way or another.

2. Not at all, first off, rape is illegal, smoking is not. Beyond that, smoking both psychologically and physiologically is nothing like rape, obviously. So, no again. And lastly, I did state in my prior post the government was set up for protection (police), finance, and international treaties, etc. So I am not for no laws. I am for laws guaranteed by the constitution. We need less government interference in life, not more.

[rant] We've adopted this policy in Australia as well. We can't smoke indoors, unless in your own home, any government building, playground, beach, stadium or before 4 metres from any entrance, walkway or door. So far, two thirds of pubs, clubs and casinos are smoke free and in July 2006 will have a 100% smoking ban. There was also talk of trying to ban smoking whilst driving your own fucking car, how utterly ridiculous and the way I see it, a total violation of peoples rights.

I can see where they're coming from but instead of punishing smokers with fines and the like, how about offering an amnesty period for 6 months to a year, or a rebate on nicotine patches or even rehabilitation of some sort. It seems to me like the government noticing there's a problem, but instead of tackling the issue head-on, they're just sweeping it under the carpet so to speak. Placing a total ban on the practice in the hope that it'll just go away.

Good luck you bureaucratic fuckknuckles, you're going to need it. This is a huge social injustice and will not be taken too lightly. [/rant]

there's a no smoking policy almost across Ontario now. (that's a province in Canada (the big peice of land above you) for those american folk)

I really like it. nothing was worse then coming home from the bar smelling of booze, sweat, urine, AND smoke.

shut your filthy mouth! People still smoke in bars in Ontario, some owners allow it because they dont beleve in the law and ther cops dont seem to mind. every now and then you get a fat chick that complains about smoke but we just call them lezzies and they leave on their own lol... it's a stupid law.. if you dont want to smell like smoke then dont goto a bar.. it's that simple..
