Its just one of many things that people will respond to, they likely see you as confident because of it so they will react to you accordingly. It's like a 'thing' you have established amongst your peers, one of many you could have chosen, but looks like you're stuck with it unless you move away and can reinvent yourself with a different persona where you're a caring individual.
