Butt don't drop the weight, just drop the reps. I had a knee op just coming up to 2 years ago now and I was out of all sport for a year. I found that when came back and hit up leg work it made my knee feel much much better as the muscle surrounding it protects it like and stabilizes it. If you find you're leg works hurts your knees your technique is probably all over the shop. My technique is fine and have no probs with my knees, also make sure you're getting as big a range of movement as possible as that will also help your knee be able to work competently in a much wider range of movement.

Al when I squat we do box sqats which is when we get a little sort of like seat thing that is just lower than a bench and squat down controlled, sit on it, and then come back up. It's a good way of doing it because it releases all the stored up tension in the quads and stuff and makes the lifts a lot harder but also a lot more specific to what we'd be doing in a rugby match. It also makes sure you're getting full range too as you can't cheat yourself with it.

Yeah done that resistance work before sprinting with a weights sled harnessed to me. Works on the basis that if you sprint with added weight when it comes to sprinting without any weight added whatsoever you'll be faster. Pretty hard work though.

Thanks for the advice anyway Sam, I'll give those box exercises a go and maybe get my mate to check my technique to see where I'm going wrong. I'll probably have to start on pretty low weights though, my knee is temperamental and is highly prone to getting re-injured.

I couldn't walk on it for 3 weeks after I twisted it going for a jog a few months back. That's how fucked it is. The physio gave me some shitty stretching exercises to do, but they don't help really. I've found doing low weights and normal cardio has helped it the most.
