Quit and then restarted my job after like a week (this happend like a month ago) and so I got put on emergency tax or summit, now im owed laods as I don't earn enough to be taxed....anyone know how long this takes to sort out@? I filled in a p46. But I need hte cash, im owed at least £100 that htey have taken in tax.

Was that from being put on emergency tax from starting a new job tho?

I know for a fact that if the company actions your p46 and puts you aback on the right tax code you should recieve all your allowances back & tax due back in your next pay.

I know this cause its what I now for a living.

if its taking too long for the company to do it, you can actually call up the revenue and send them your details and stuff and ask them for any tax you are due back from the past few months and they will calculate everything and send you a cheque and also tell the company you're working for what tax code you should be on so it wont happen again.

Also, am I right in thinking that the first £5000 or so you earn in a year at hte moment is tax free? So say I was in a £15000 a year job, over the year only £10000 of it would be suseptible (sp?) to 22% tax? then all of it could be effected by national insurance?

Edit: pretty much I wanna know if im looking at lal that right and how much do you think I would take home a month after tax from a £15000 job?

EDIT:: I just wrote a load of crap here that would be better explained somewhere else - probably on the inland revenue site, so try there if you need an explaination.

Yes. Everyone is put on emergency tax for a short period when they get a new job then once they sort out what tax boundary you fall into you get taken off it and put onto that tax code but they never bothered with me.

or if you have a p45/p46 immediatley when you start you will be paid on the tax code assigned and skip the BR tax code.
