Well if it really was just because you went over by £5, make a point of that and how ridiculous it is, say you gatta pay rent or summit soon and this is really fucking you over and its not helping either you or the bank by keep charging you and taking you back into your overdraft. Say that other banks ( well HSBC) dont charge for going £5 over. and only charge £25. But dont say out right that you want to switch otherwise they may just say ok and clsoe your account.

So yeah, try them things, and go to someone your age to complain too, they are more likely to fight your corner for you.

There was a huge kuffufle about it like 8 months ago and anyone who had been charged for going overdrawn went into their banks and get the charges back. I did it too.

Mate I keep going overdrawn on my solo cards cos I have direct debits set up for my insurance and never remember when the money comes out.

If you want your money back, just kick up a massive stink, go in there and say 'This is bullshit, if you dont drop the charges I am going to close my account and go elsewhere'.

All banks are arseholes, and they only want your money.

But at the same time you cant really blame them for charging you as you dont pay for your account, so every service they provide is free. Im one of the poor bastards that has a business account and has to pay to take money out, put money in, get a statement.

Not true at all, the court case is still going on, theres nothing that says its illegal for banks to charge you for going overdrawn. All complaints against banks are currently on hold until the case has finished, which wont be for years as the banks have already been told they can appeal the desisicion.

and yeah mike, hsbc wont charge if you go less than a tenner overdrawn.

And yeah, the Uk is one of hte only places where banking is a free service, which is under threat if it is deemed that banks cant charge the charges they do for going overdrawn. So you mugs that cant run your accoutns properlly are going ot make banking no longer free for everyone else!!!!!

I know the feeling. Working in a bar with people that get so pissed they shit themselves and cant walk. I love the place but I dont like getting totally smashed incase I turn into one of them. Working in a bar totally put me off going on mad drinking binges.

I got into a bit of banking trouble through National City in my area.

Over a holiday weekend, I went overdrawn by like 2 dollars or something. On Martin Luther King day (a Monday, and reason for the holiday weekend) I put in enough money to cover what I had spent and gone over. But, since it was a holiday, it didn't go in until the following day, and all of the little things I ended up charging to my card over the weekend were each charged a 30 dollar overdraft fee.

By the time it was all said and done, I was like 300 dollars in debt because I refused to pay it and they charged me like 15% of what I owed each day I didn't pay it back.

I just abandoned the account and it's still negative 300 dollars. They sent collections people after me for about a week, and I just argued with them and ignored them. I haven't heard back from them since. That was like February. I assume they've all forgotten about it. Image file not present in the recovered backup
