I would hate to see what your idea of AE's full potential is...
I cant stand when people go overboard with masking and compositing layers, or when people try to animate their footage in keyframes...especially in homegrown videos...(no offense to that Scottish group). Just watch Bling Along and you'll know what I mean...
AE is awesome for text though, and simple things like the stuff in this video.

ShittybumI think that's a pretty good example.

that was awesome seen it awhile ago though
so did he do all of this just in AE?

Yeah I posted it a while ago because someone wanted to see some AE work. A lot of it looks like it was, e.g. the text coming across the floor and the graffiti on the wall, well everything except the motion work, I think that might have been done in Final Cut.

That wasnt a homegrown video, and that wasn't something you made. I meant "your idea" as in something you did yourself.
AE is full of uses when youre making a music video or some abstract short...but using those effects in footage of a fight or stunt would look retarded....can you imagine CKY using those line effects for everytime someone jumped into a bush? yeah right..

Every single sequence yeah..... but if you chuck a couple in I think it enhances it.... That video was OTT in my opinion, but yeah it was pretty rad.
Snap says thanks for the comments, apparantly he can't find the thread on here.

if the fight is good, it should be left untouched.
20 November 2005, 19:57 UTC#39
honestly the editing was better than the footage, but yous said yourself he wouldn't edit one up with all the good shit

I put it into premiere first to do a quick rough cut...then impoted it into after effects....the final version I used final cut as well to render the sratches in as its quicker on a mac I find....I was planning to do an all out illegal tralier but decided this wasnt really the best way to get a good grade...I mean I think my class was shocked enough with simply what was put in there...
As for the overediting disscussion for a tralier I see no harm in putting whatever in there cause all your trying to do is hype the product and leave a lasting impression....however throwing in millions of effects into an actual dvd is dam annoying...the more subtle the editing is the better...only time to go throwing effects in is when the footage you have aint that great and it needs a distraction.
anyway just my point of view....
23 November 2005, 23:57 UTC#45
haha I can be seen in this vid.
Yeah nice explanation snap, I agree.
