You need the motherboard drivers for it, if it's onboard, or the LAN card drivers if it's an addon PCI card. If you can, take off the cover from your PC and tell me the model of your motherboard (Imprinted somewhere on it) and if you use a PCI LAN card, then give me the model of that. I'll look for the drivers for you. Once I've foud them (you can try this now) go to "Network connections" and create a new connection, just select all the options which are the same or similar to the type of your connection. If you still can't connect to the internet afterwards, make sure the connection is enabled, it doesn't require manual entering of the IP and subnet properties. Once you've verified this, and if it still doesn't connect go to Start > Run > type "cmd" (without the quotes) then in the MSDOS interface type "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew"

That pretty much covers how to reconnect your PC to the net.

I told him he needed the necessary driver files before he formatted and reinstalled xp. He should have listened.

ya I should of, my cousin who's a computer programmer is coming over soon to fix my mess. next time I need to format I'll listen to experienced ppl biggrin.gif
