Adem - I'm one of those people who pick apart movies, and it's not by choice, it's because I have A's in Film Studies and the likes, it's natural for me to sit there and micro analyse it in my head without trying.
It's great because you really can appreciate them so much more when you understand why everything is as it is.

What bugs me is when people go (and I'm using Donnie Darko as an example, because it's the 'cool' film to watch nowadays, emo kids mainly, they didn't bloody care when it actually did come out did they...):

OMG I totally agree I think the way it was shot was beautiful and it was made so well!

Those are people you don't know what Mise-en-scene means. Fuckers don't know shit.
After I've watched the film, I'll give my opinion.

Well, first off, I didn't say what you quoted...at all really. All I said is that they peppered the film with little bull shit about Cruise becoming a great father because of the situation with his kids, that has nothing to do with conformity. If anyone's oppinion is of the conformist, it's yours. You're taking the film for what Hollywood wants you to take it as, "It had awesome special effects and it scared me! lol" Sure, they would love to make an easy 50 million dollars off of kids being scared while at the same time not thinking about the movie at all. A non-comformist actually looks at things for what they are and forms an oppinion after THINKING about them, not just going with the initial reaction of "WOAH that was suspenseful!"...I am just saying, once you get past the initial wow of the effects, it's a shallow movie, that's not being a conformist at all. Plus with a 125 million dollar budget, he damn well better have sweet special effects for us...

I thought it was fucking excellent
just like adem I was on the edge of my seat
the visual imagery was stunning...and it was good because it got right into it quick and didn't take it's fucking time with the action...

oh and to those who criticise it....please shut the fuck up....you suck

Alright, well I want someone who knows something about film and can actually make a discerned criticism of the movie to tell me if they liked the film or not. Because so far the only thing that I have heard from any one that has liked it is the fact that it had great special effects (which it should considering the budget it had and the techonology available) and that it was suspenseful. But special effects and suspense don't make good movies, they make mediocre movies that the masses swallow with a big smile on their faces while lining Tom Cruise's pockets.

Why do you have to know films like a pro to enjoy a movie? BTD, Raymond? Care to share really? I'm really into filming and all that jazz, but I know when and why a movie sucks without breaking down every little detail, how can that make you "enjoy it better" I guess I'm just easily pleased, and I'm not trying to be a dick about it, but there seriously was a lot of work put into this movie and I hate when people pick out the small stuff, like raymond here. I love how you deny what I say tho. <3 you. I'm done talking about it, I liked it and who cares what others think, no need to get dramatic.

The End.

Dude, all I am saying is that I thought it had great effects and awesome presentation, and yes it was suspenseful at some points, I agree with you. But if it is to be accepted as a great movie or one of the better movies of the year, it can't have the flaws that it had. You can't end a movie the way it was ended and you can't deny the audience any insight as to how earth managed to live on after the aliens all died because they weren't prepared for "our atmosphere". I mean, it was a movie that is good if you are looking to be on the edge of you seat. But if you want a well-thought-out movie that tackles major issues and presents new ways of looking at things, then this isn't a good movie. Great movies are movies that change your way of looking at things or present a new way of looking at things, this movie didn't do that...it just gave you what you expected to see.
Okay agreed, you liked it, I didn't, the end, <3 you. Sorry for fighting.

Because when a film does something right and you can spot it, it makes it all the more better.

It's not all about being a pro at films to like them either, it just helps. I did films before I learnt to analyse them y'know...

Sorry I did not see this when I posted the review of it earlier.

If you've not seen this, and plan to... let me try to save you a ten buck ticket. You take a classic story and a classic movie and you destroy it by bad acting and changing the key elements. I usually can suspend disbelief for movies... for christ-sakes, I like zombie movies which are not very realistic. But you are expected to buy so many outlandish "concidences" and plot points this movie is...ugh, horrid on so many, many levels. It is not even worth the price of a rental, let alone a standard ticket. This movie makes a scum video look like the best homegrown video out there.

I don't understand how people can say it was shit because the aliens die since they aren't immune to our atmosphere...it's actually a reasonable answer...
think why eskimos can live in such minimal temperatures and people like us can't.....because for millions of years or whatever their ancestors were living in those conditions and as time goes on they adapt to the environment and over such a long time span it doesn't affect you anymore...
fuck how bout you kids listen in science you might learn a thing or two...

rob has the answer, the ending was straight to the point and didn't lag on and make it obvious there would be a sequel like every other movie in the world, but the ending sucked cause I wanted that faggot kid to be dead.

If the son had AT LEAST died, I would've considered this movie good.

"lets fight em! lets get back at the aliens blah blah"

You fucking idiot. You're going to fight them by running full speed into them and getting killed? Great idea

get back at them for what? killing millions of people you don't know? it's ever man for himself if you don't know the people involved, it's not time to wave that flag high and mighty and say "god bless me and my american ways."

that makes me wanna cut my hair.

Ray From BorDumB-

Yeah, I am glad someone finally agrees with me, I was feeling lonely on the hate side of this movie.

As to Robism,

Dude, Morgan Freeman said they were planning the attack for millions of years before man even set foot on the planet. Now, I know that trillions of years ago, the Earth was completely different than it is now, different atmosphere and environment completely. But what I want to know is how did the aliens have the fore-sight to know that trillions of years from now, there will be a species that inhabits this planet and they will be highly susceptible to vapo-rays and giant robots? And if they had some sort of vision into the future, wouldn't they realize that the people breathed oxygen from the atmosphere? How did they know we wouldn't think to find them under-ground? How did they know anything about us if they didn't know the single most important element that sustained our life? I mean, I like the idea (I think the makers of 'Mars Attacks' liked it too) but it was poorly thought out, much like the entire movie.

dude the book was written like almost 100 years ago I think and back then shit like this was never known about....
so if he changed the plot to keep up with todays technologic advances, it wouldn't be a re-make...it'd be a rip-off...then everyone would be complaining that he raped war of the worlds...

I can agree with you there, but the book that H.G. wrote, it had nothing to do with a hard-ass dead-beat dad becoming a great father. That was just Hollywood bullshit. HG Wells didn't include any specific characters really at all. And I am saying that if Spielberg is willing to change the entire focus of the story for our modern enjoyment then why not alter the end as well?

because they couldn't handle our atmosphere, if you're not human, or an animal, then you can't survive on our planet basically. we're immune.

fuckin right, they thought out how to make machines deflect our heavy artilery, but they didn't make suits capable of helping them survive on our planet, I'd make a great alien, imma go to mars and be their mole. help them invade us again. er, for the first time.
