I admit that is the number one disadvantage of the PS

But its like the move between...erm.....Sega and Playstation 1 (completely unrlated I know, but for the sake of argument...) The Sega games just got phased out to make way for a whole new generation of better games

But you have based this whole thing on something that may not even be true..... Ill defo get the PS3 (Ill wait though) and the nintedo.... the 360 ill just play when I get a chance to go over my bros... I just dont see any games on the 360 id really really want to own like the Sony as or the nintendo

The ps3 is going to be region free...I.e you can play games from asia north america and europe without the need for cheaty-type devices.. the flip side of this is that because each disk is going to be encrypted its only going to work on the one console

They would be stupid to do that aswell. It will only be soemthing else that can break and I for one would never by it if u couldnt go around your amtes and play a game.

The thing is...sony make no money from pre-owned games or people copying games so this is their way of stamping it out IMO

But by stamping that out they are ganna piss alot of people off, loosing more money by people refusing to buy the consol in the first place than from pre owned games sales.

I agree its one of the worst moves they can make...I think that in the long haul they will probably stand to profit from this tho...although alot of gamers will get pissed off sony will lose no money from pre-owned games etc!

It wont be region free either. If it was, Sony wouldnt be able to release it "exclusively" to their precious Japan first. If it was region free then in countries like the UK (where games are dearer) then people will just import, which will make companies less money. As for the disc only working on 1 console thing a Sony spokesperson confirmed it was untrue. If it says something bad about the PS3 in an Xbox mag it must be true though eh!

Does anyone know the price of the new ps3, I heard that it's gunna seel for less than it costs them to make, and was around 22opound, but also read that it's gunna cost a fuck load, so who knows.

I find it a pretty interesting move by Sony if it's true, cos it shows they have fuckloads of confidence. But then I guess I would too.

God that's what mike said and it took me a whole lunch to explain, basically to get people interested, making them sell more etc, get the money off of games and accesories, if it's too pricey then they wont sell as much. Should loose money in the first year and then get it back the following, more of a long term way of profit, same way advertising gets more customers, less pricey console will do the same.

I think the idea is to get an immediate stream of ps3s out into the homes as quickly as possible, so they become the typical console of choice. If they do this, I see no reason for them not to recoup their losses with sales of games/controllers/added components in the second year.

Surely thats too much of a risk though. I could maybe see them selling for how much it actually costs. And then making all the profits on the agmes etc. But I suppose im not ganan complain if its cheaper, that mean they will charge more for games?

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I couldn't pack the original Xbox into my suitcase. It had an awful look. Yet you bought one and maintain it is a good console.

To be honest, if it plays well it can be in the shape of a 3 foot wang. In fact, I may request a special addition PS3 for that specific purpose.
