That's debatable, I think that there definitely needs to be an artist like Tupac that decides to write and rap about shit that needs to be addressed in the black community. That was something that was always present in older rap - a message that spoke to the black community, but now, all that mainstream rap does is advocate violence against other blacks and glorifies the "thug life". It's misguiding our youth and ifluencing our kids while promoting crime and violence. Rap is in a slump because rappers like 50 Cent and Lil Wayne only want their money and image to go untarnished when what they should be worrying about as primary influences in their community is urban renewal and sending a positive message to the youth that crime and violence just isn't the solution to making something out of the city.

So yeah, rap is in a slump. Dammit, you got me worked up, Mike.

Well, it depends on what you define as "religion". If you're asking is there a God - an omniscient creator influencing our lives and pre-determining everything we do, then I think no. Do I think there's a greater force behind the universe beyond human comprehension - yes. Jesus - yeah, a good guy, had a lot of good ideas, a lot like Confucius or Tolstoy, but son of God? Nope. So I guess that if you define religion based on curiosity about the universe and as a means to give yourself an explanation for the unexplainable, then yeah, it's worth buying into. If it's a way of just accepting that there are just some things that we can not explain or understand, then it's perfectly healthy. But, if you use religion to justify yourself or restrict anyone else in any way, then it's harmful and should be avoided at all costs. Unfortunately, the latter is the most common occurrence with most religions, so I'd say that ultimately, religion is more harmful than positive in our world.

alternate universes??

Well, the idea of "alternate universes" is pretty complicated to just glaze over here. If you're talking about "multiverse" which is basically the idea of there being multiple universes, then that's a definite possibility. Dealing with multiverse, I think that with the incomprehensible size of our known universe, it would be irresponsible to deny the possibility of there being multiple universes. See, when getting into a discussion like this, it raises questions from everywhere. Questions about the role of time in our world and Quantum Theory and all that business. I don't know enough about any of them to make an educated guess. But, I'd say that it's definitely possible that there are multiple universes out there. It's just so complicated, it'd take years for me to begin to understand it.

as for does time exist, I am going to pass and leave it up to the next person. because to me time is just a measure of how long we have existed for.

Time only exists as a combination of both light and speed, the visible changing of the environment and the constant speeds of day and night etc give the impression that time is moving forward. If I said there was 70 seconds in a minute, you could do nothing to prove me wrong, except use a clock, which is man made so doesn't count. If time does exist regardless of any other human or animal existence, it is an uncontrollable presence that cannot be measured accurately. For hypothetical example, ancient animals may have been aware of being tired or hungry, but may not have related this to any part of the day or even tried to create an order to these feelings. The measurements of time we use have been made up to suit us, so if time does exist exclusively from us these are probably incorrect. The other theory is that we simply created time in order to bring a sense of controllability to chaos.
That's just my guess, it's a really weird question as no-one understands it and it pretty much controls our life.

I read a really interesting paper that was based on H.G. Wells' The Time Machine; and the theories it raised. Essentially, Wells (writing about a hundred years ago, don't forget) put forward the theory that time is the fourth dimension, along with height, width and depth.

In a nutshell, he gave the example of a pencil. You can measure how tall, wide and broad and pencil is, and get fixed numerical values. But if the pencil doesn't have a time value, that is, if it exists for zero seconds, it doesn't exist at all.

Every physical body in the universe must have a fourth dimension of time to dictate it's presence on our plane. Thus, Wells concluded, if we can find a way to traverse the t-axis, just as we worked out how to travel along the other three, then we'll have invented time travel.
