Thought it would be interesting to find out how powerful everyones computers are here, especially since alot of people edit and use photoshop etc.

Plus Im shit at understanding computers so its interesting for me to see what most people have and what people redeem to be 'fast'.

So post your computer spec, memory, ram, processors etc.

CUrrently I have :

Mac Pro:
2 x 2.66 GHz dual-core intel xeon processors
2GB 667 MHz DDR2 VB-DiMM of ram
250 gigs internal memory.

Ive never really had a problem with speed, but am updating my comp to hopefully make it slightly faster for editing. Getting 6gb of ram put in and 2tb of internal memory.

If Ive forgotten any computer lingo/spec just include it in your posts as I'm a computard.

EDIT: ALso just noticed my names changed back, whoever changed it back could you make it 'DEX' in capitals, like it was before. Afankoo.

I'll post the specs of my two computers when I have time at lunch, but good thread idea DEX.

When buying ram, is putting them in easy? Just... Shut down computer, unplug and replace them? Will it just recognize straight away that it has new memory? What else needs to be done, how easy is it to fuck it up? I wanna get it up to 2GB, so, 2x 1GB.

Yeah just do that. If you have a 32Bit then don't put more than 4GB in there, other than that DO IT.

I think it only supports up to 2 GB anyways... 32bit = something to do with Windows? :/ If so, I think it is 32bit.

I can't believe, 8 GB of ram, and 4x 2.4GHz, I bought my computer a few years ago but that just sounds insane.

Makes rendering and gaming very very fast. ;D

I know fuck all when it comes to computers, this seems to serve me well though. Anything worth upgrading? (bearing in mind I don't use it to play games)

Some RAM would be good if you're using photoshop a lot. Maybe slightly upgrade CPU if you run quite a bit at once.

my laptop I use would be decent if the gpu wasn't so lame, it's a geforce 6150.. -_- I'm actually surprised half life 2 runs good. it's all I can play unless the game dates back a decade or 2.

I also got another computer but the specs suck my friend just gave it to me for free back in 2004 and It was originally shipped to him back in 2002. Since then I've added 2 hard drives, more ram, a DVD RW drive, it's legit for pretty much anything but games and photoshop.

I ran a scan using this site; http://www.crucial.com/uk/index.aspx
It says I have 4 memory slots, 2 in use, 2 free, with 4GB RAM, max. Basically, where are these other slots? :/ I've opened up my comp and had a look, I can see the 2 in use... Are all four not together? Nothing else in there looks like it could be another bank of memory slots.

Any help?
