I was being serious. theres a legal way to use music but it can only be 30sec or so. thats why tv shows loop a pop song for intermissions or behind interviews, its always the same sample

in the same way copyright is applied to everything else, if it is noticably obvious that you have used a substantial part of the work of another without permission for financial gain.
FOR EXAMPLE
using a full length track from some artist in your dvd, its hardly subtle that you didnt produce the track and if you havent got permission to use it, you're liable to be fucked.
using a 4 second sample from a track, its not a obviously recognisable sample so youre more likely to not have it noticed than a full length track, but you're still liable.
but to be fair I dont think many people here need to worry about licencing anything as its hardly big fish tings agwarn so people arent gonna be losing out on much if you can only push 20 dvds or something.

hit up artist on myspace. Tell them you get alot of traffic to your website and you got to hit up alot of artist. All my DVd music is from myspace. Trick Trick from D-12 , I talked to his manager and he said I could use the music video of thier new song. It had ICE CUBE in it lol.
I got Necro and Q-unuiqe are kind of famous yet still Homegrown.

Just found this topic... I would say simple rule is...
will you sell 100's of dvd's... if yes then go unsigned bands,
if you will only move 10 to 20 copies then fuck it and use some good signed tracks.
When I sold the hunt I even had the BBFC said they would shut me down due to me using the 18 BBFC icon. So its not worth getting found out if you are selling lots of dvd's!
