Booze

I've found myself stepping outside of the usual American way of beer drinking, which is "get as much beer as possible for the least amount of money". I've been buying some "finer" beers lately, trying to expand my tastes and all that jazz. So I figured I could make this thread to give my thoughts on recent drinks I've had, as well as hear thoughts from other people. I'm interested to learn how you Brits go about drinking and stuff, as well as hearing foreign recommendations.

So last night I bought two 6-packs. The first was called Post Road Pumpkin Ale. Absolutely horrible! When I smelled it I was pretty excited to drink it, but was let down hard. The cinnamon and what I'm assuming to be nutmeg spices are really overwhelming. I didn't even finish the beer I opened and went back to drinking Busch Light. I'm drinking one now because I don't wanna let money go to waste, haha. It's only 5% alcohol by volume, so overcoming the taste isn't even worth it.

The second 6-pack was amazing. It was Hornsby's Crisp Apple Cider. The taste of this reminded me of green apple Jolly Ranchers. Strength wise, it's in the ball park to where you definitely know you're not drinking a bitch beer like Smirnoff or something, but at the same time, not straight beer with no distinguishing taste. It was 5.5% I believe, so this one could definitely sneak up on you if you're drinking it all night. I recommend this one highly.

A good colour, deep orange, rather dusky in appearance, and not particularly dense or opaque. The nose shows somewhat woody fruit, with a spirity character. On the palate a flattering sweetness, with a creamy but certainly not luscious presence, leading through to a rather firm finish showing some ripe but dry tannins. There is a rather simple brown sugar note to it, which is straightforward but not displeasing, and to be critical a slightly hot, alcoholic character. A little short on concentration of flavour.

For 16 year olds who don't know any better or males yet to come out.


Trivia time: the woman that runs the manufacturing factory for WKD used to live up the road from me.

What's the alcohol by volume percent of that? And I'm confused, is it a liquor or a beer?

I haven't had the chance to try many other beers than the typical brands that you see at most parties. Samuel Adam's Boston Lager is pretty amazing, and last night some guy recommended Flat Tire.

I'll look around for it, although I'm discovering I don't really like ales as opposed to lagers.

I prefer liquor to beer, but any light beer will do just fine if I'm playing Beer Pong or something.

Some liquors I enjoy:
Jager, Tequila (Prefferably Jose Cuervo), Any kind of Blue Raspberry flavored Vodka, Goldschlager, and I'll pretty much try anything once.

I'm quite the opposite. I used to never even touch liquor because I always seem to get sick, but I've been meddling recently. I've been craving some Red Bull and vodka lately.

It's really smooth and has a nice bitter aftertaste... vol.6.3%

I've had that Dex. Couple of bars sell it here. Is quite tasty.

if you're looking for something good and cheap,
go with Pabst blue ribbon (my personal favorite)
it's only 4.9% but it fuckin worth its price
and I believe there is also Pabst dry...which contains 5.9%

Do a Jagerbomb man. (Redbull in a cup, drop a shot of Jager in, pound it. I don't think you're an idiot or anything, but I figured I'd elaborate on the slight chance you might not know.) They're good.
