A skate DVD without good skate footage isn't my thing is all.

I figured a DVD based on 10 years of skate footage could lend it's self to at least enough footage for a killer trick ever time you showed a skate move.

What makes Doc's on skating good is that you give a fuck about the people skating due to the fact they skate well. I didn't even see any good protest shots, just a cop roll up and say something about not skating there.

I thought the audio at the end was good but that doesn't make a quality DVD.

I for see a boring DVD skate wise, and no other footage in there would make me think it would be entertaining in any other way.

The trailer failed to get me excited and thats what trailers are supposed to do.

Should work on putting some more exciting footage in there instead of telling me I'm hating.

Just cause webby says his trailer is a change of pace doesn't make it fact.

Most of his trailers are slow or start slow, plus a lot of other groups who do slow paced trailers (mostly new groups cause it's easier to fit a clip you control the speed over into a song or theme.

Edit: This is FMS BTW.

its audio is voice samples taken from hemel skates interviews from Radio 1 and BBC news. its pretty lines the story of what the documentarys about. give it another watch with both video and audio.x

you havnt seen the DVD.....I wanted to show the youth from hemel enjoying the park instead of the orginals HS/HI rideing. I still stand by the clips I showed, even tho I only have 5% of the achives captured on my pc. they shows the locations of where HS and HI used to skate and ride and once the park was open you get a good shot of all the ramps and what kind of tricks can be preformed on them. if you dont enjoy amuture skate vids go rent a tony hawk video. I'll let you know now. none of HS are professional skaters.

I can see from your first sentance you think this is a doc on skateboarding. which means you didnt even pay attention to the audio anyway. so for you to have an opinion on a dvd that isnt even made yet isnt something thats going to stand as a strong opinion.

you didnt see any protest shots because I didnt use any..lol..not that it would matter anyway. you're just nit picking at what you didnt see. so your complaing you want to see stuff im saving for the DVD. ah isnt that called something like Marketing. something I went to college for and use for projects now.

you can for see anything you like now you've got a problem with me, dont mean you can see the future or know whats gos on in my town....but I can tell you something, if you wasnt hateing on me, what you would be saying to me on msn would be the oppersit to what you posted in here.

iv lernt from the past, its pointless to excited people for a dvd that isnt for sale and in both cases even made yet.

what is good marketing is to make a small trailer letting people somethings in the works and when a dvd is made to excite them with a final trailer. its pretty simple to see what iv done with this trailer. I mean it even said trailer "1"

you should work on your videos instead of spending time hateing on others, its all you do lately, me on the other hand dont need to work on my editing, filming or marketing skills,

notice not one "bad angles" comment...seems im a good right job. and with every amount of prossitive comes negitive from 2 people I previesly gave two negitive reviews too.....then one of them trys schooling me on something they know nothing about lol

cheers the style was something I hadnt done before. you wont see any people on here posting documentary trailers so its nothing new in terms layout of the trailer, just new for HGF. and some people dont like change.

but it is fact, it is a change of pace, iv only put out 1 teaser clip in 2004 which had like 5 slow clips because of the track I wanted to use didnt have any beats. and I remember it being a huge success editing and content wise.

oh and another clip to promote the website in early 05 which had 15secs of slow at the start to make people think it was going to be the same editing as the last clip they saw...which turns out it wasnt.

im a fastpaced editor normaly. its my style of editing because I need to fit in as many killer clips as possible into the time frame I have. to see something iv done in a slow pace is a change from me and from videos posted on this website

Nice trailer Marc. I really liked the dreamy touch it had to it. Was the piano in the background from Silent Hill? It went well with the speech/news audio track
post #19
02 January 2008, 16:31 UTC#19
hey ben, thanks for commenting, yes it was a piano version of a silent hill track made by a fan.

the original track is called 'Room of Angles' which features vocals from Melissa Williamson (her vocals was used on the 1st retardz trailer (the slow motion one)

I wanted to use her for every first trailer from the projects I work on but the lyrics to what she sings wouldnt fit at all. plus radio audio would confuse with it.

but no problem, I am pleased with the end result.

Well the youth of Hemel skate suck at skate boarding and make for a boring video.

What you told me when you told me about the project was it's a Doc on people protesting and fighting 10 years for a skate park.

All I saw was mediocre skating and a cop kicking someone out of a spot.

Yeah I saw the area but it did about as good as a picture of the place in my opinion because the content was seriously lacking.

I don't see why your trying to defend the shitty content saying I don't understand the message of the video, if I don't then thats your fault for editing a video a fan of your work couldn't even grasp.

I enjoy amateur skate videos, some of my favorite companies started as amateur skate videos (Toy Machine to name one), if all you know is Tony Hawk no wonder this video featured a lack luster quality of skate boarding.

I'd continue rebutting your ridiculous attempt to debunk me but you know what I'm saying is true.

I know of bam margera aswell, like I said the fact if you was still cool with me you would of understood why this trailer is the way it is.

theres no changing that so no point you carring on with your beef aganst anything I put out.

I know 90% of this sites members from anywhere in the world will enjoy this documentary for its content, story & production.

the editing didnt fail. no one else posted saying they couldnt understand the concept.

I liked it.

My only criticism is it would have been nice to hear som tv static sound during the first few tv static type transitions (think I did notice a little bit on one of them though)

But overall a cool vid. I think you could have put 10 seconds of crazy music and clips at the end, to tease people abit more, but it defenately works without. And putting some crazy shit at the end might contrdict the message running throughout the film. If you get me? (which might be why you chose not to do it?)

Nice work.

thanks dex, I wish more of homegrowns real memebers would give it awatch and comment. but funny you should make them comments

the static really didnt fit with the opening title shot, sounded much better left with just the music. so I left them all without, the sound you can hear on one of them is the music that was playing behind an interview, I did my best to controll the levels but still was there. thats why I used a concret grind clip for that part so it fitted more with the audio.

also the craziness bit at the end would of changed the idea I had for this early teaser which was laided back slow pace. its abit more like what I have had planned for trailer 2 but with a section it builds up too

I was only going to do 1 trailer once I finsihed the dvd but I needed to put something out there for the locals, they always see me filming it without anything online to show its in production, I always get told 'put it on youtube for me' lol

I have 1 section done which is the early hemel idiots part. I mostly have BMX on my harddrive due to the fact im working on another BMX dvd with paul from hemel idiots. plus he dont have nearly as much footage as Mat from HS. iv got 40+ tapes to capture just from the early HS stuff.

DVD will hopefully and should be edited by July this year. thats the endline. (skateparks 3rd birthday jam)

I don't think it really took 10 years to make like you're thinking. I think he means they filmed shit for 10 years, then thought "lets edit this together into a full length video".

I thought it was a little too dramatic for a skate video, but you definitley got the point across. I liked some of the tricks, but I do hope you release a faster teaser/trailer later on.
