The object isn't to die, thats the safety aspect, you need to know when is too far. Surely ensuring you don't brutally injure yourself is something that needs to be taken into consideration?
If you are left with scars or blindness or something worse then you don't say "Yeah, that shows how badass that stunt/ jump etc.. was", you think about how you wish you had taken that extra precautions and care..
