Smoking's banned in all public places in Ohio, it's really lame. I don't smoke and I'm against the smoking ban. I understand in fast food joints or places that children frequent. But bars, pubs and dance halls are places that cater to adults and in most instances, disallow children period. If an adult doesn't want to be around smoke, they can leave or go to an area where there is no smoke around. But, at a bar, most people don't have their health in mind in the first place. "Hey bartender, I'm trying to get shitfaced drunk so I can go home and have unprotected sex with this woman I just met, and this guy's blowing smoke in my face!" Please, leave it to the private business owner to make the decision if he wants to have smoking in his facility or not, it's ridiculous to take away the option.

Totally agree.

Government seriously are Nazis. I mean let's think about weed for example:

* Who the fuck decides I can't grow a plant in my own home?

Problem with society is we accept laws without realising our basic freedoms are slowly being removed from us. It's ridiculous.

My whole country has this law aswell, but Ray sums up my beliefs on it; places such as clubs and bars should choose if they have smoking or not.

If smoking is such a bad thing, why haven't they stopped making cigarettes?

I'm a non-smoker and I think smokers should have the freedom to smoke wherever and whenever they want.

I heard they were gonna try banning smoking at bus stops and outside public work places, its getting a bit out of hand now...

I guess because it's such a culturally excepted thing these days....there would be uproar if it was banned completly, like with alcohol, it's been around so long....but if it was invented today it would be a class B drug.

Also I guess the government gets shit loads off taxes from cigaretts, so to stop making htem would mean they loose out on shit loads.

But by just bannning it in public places they are keeping people who dont want to inhale second hand smoke thats killing them and also allwoing the smokers to slowly kill themselves in their own home. Why should I have to feel the effects of someone else's stupid habit just because I like to go to bars and pubs!? Or why should I have too move into a non-smoking area!? I agree that people have the right to choose if they smoke or not, but they shouldnt make their habit hurt others.

^It's 9 o'clock here.

Unfortunately we don't have the smoke ban here yet. I hate waking up in a hangover after a clubnight when everything about you (hair, clothes) smells of cigarette smoke

This will be fucking shit, second hand smoke is blown way out of proportion. This ban will be shit in practice, how the fuck will clubs let people out for a fag and then let you back in, they can't monitor it all. Many people will be very pissed off about the pubs, it's fucking stupid, pubs don't feel the same without a dirty aroma of cigarettes, and I really don't want to have to stand outside if it's pissing it down to have a smoke. I go down cafe on thurs and fri to have a smoke and food with people and now this is being taken away. Stupid law.

Too bad. Don't smoke. Why should I have to go outside the bar just to get away from smelling like shit and inhaling fumes?

Saved this hilariously stupid statement til last. Do some research. Secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,400 lung cancer deaths and 22,700-69,600 heart disease deaths in adult nonsmokers in the United States each year.

Rob nothing has been proven about second hand smoke, it's not been proven that it attributed to the level everyone thinks.
And saying too bad don't smoke is not an argument, I could say too bad, smoke. It doesn't work.
Pubs are generally not a great place for your health anyway, why do people moan about the health risks. It's like ordering a big mac, and then a diet coke because coke is too fattening.
EDIT: smoking is really fucked for people, but second hand smoke has not yet been determined, it's just predictions by lots of different scientists.

It's already banned where I live. People were pissed at first, but now they've gotten over it and restaurants are actually better.

I'm afraid it does. Not smoke doesn't impede on your health. Smoking does. You can take actions to make EVERYONE damage their health.

Ok then. I do bungee jumping because it's dangerous and so gives me a rush. But I wouldn't like to do it tied up with a crocodile while smoking crack through a broken glass bottle.

Who, of course, with years of medical experience, are wrong.

This is by far one of the stupidest arguments I've ever been involved in. Give up. You can't prove second-hand smoke doesn't kill.

Can you smoke in parks? Would places like bluewater not count, as it is privately run?

Well Joe, what do you think? is secondhand smoking a health risk or not?

Should we wait for the figures for smokeing related deaths on non-smokers? Lets wait and see, eh?

I understands that you think that this wilk make your life poo but fuck you! :D Think about Rob's and mine!

and infact this will probably make you stop smoking and make you a wealthier, healthier and sexier man!

Just to balance out Joe's side of the story. Obviously there are gonna be articles saying passive smoking is an awful crime against humanity.
"DONT BELEIVE YR BLAK N WHITE TEXT BOOKZ"- Crazy lecture guy.

QUOTE
"And Oxford University professor of medical statistics, Sir Richard Peto, told the committee the health risks of passive smoking were "unlikely to be large."

"The report says: "Given the evidence about the impact of passive smoking, we are concerned that the decision to ban smoking in public places may represent a disproportionate response to a relatively minor health concern."

I always find my self wondering whether you can believe studdies that involve substances that are likely to be used by the testers and proffesors and that the might be addicted.... I bet theyre bias as fuck!

Like a glass of redwine is good because bla bla bla

Coffee isnt that bad.. nooooo-no

Passive smoking oooh no! no worries!

raping kids wrong? noooooooooooooo! oh no!

Oh I totally agree. If people want to, they can arrange studies to prove or disprove anything.
It's just unfair to assume passive smoking has devastating effects based on certain chosen sources when it could be proven otherwise.
