I'm sure the best thing would be just using an engine for some other applicable game, otherwise it will end up being second rate [I can't see you making a dece game by yourself without funding etc].

It will no doubt end up being second rate... but I am mostly doing this as a means to better learn the intricacies of C++. I just thought it was a cool idea, and a good way to do it. I already do a lot of programming, but I have never done a huge project such as this. Its a learning project.

So they would be fighting cops after stunts and pranks or what?

Soemthing like that, yeah. This is kinda where I'm stuck - because I don't know what else would make good enemies - or like boss characters. I suppose I could have MTV agents with mind control beams or something. Any suggestions on that??

I'd do cops and security as little characters.

Bosses could be

-Moody
-MTV
-E!

Stuff like that, and the last boss should be Supreme Court for getting sued over your video.

You could always have a storyline where your group gets sued either for a stunt gone wrong which causes a shitload of damage and injuries to innocents and buildings. So the cops start cracking down heavily on all homegrown groups. Money has to be raised to pay off the damages and get our names out of the gutter, or maybe we have to raise money to get certain members out of jail.

Something like that.

I was thinking something like that as well.

I was also thinking along the lines of, for isntance - if one character has a stunt that needs to be done in a skatepark - when you get to a skatepark, there may be some gang of territorial skaters who don't wnat you skating their turf - and before you can get the footage, you have to defeat them (as bosses) and other stuff like that. Similar gang attacks could also be little characters. Old women with purses, etc. Should be comedic as well, since that is the aim of homegrown - to provide comedy and entertainment.

Thats a great idea. I don't have a lot of the story line worked out yet - so ideas like this are really appreciated. The more creativity I get from you guys, the less work I have to do. ;)

Soemthing for people to keep in mind, some things I may need help with might include:

Sprites (characters/images, etc.) and other artwork
Music - which can be used both for game play midi, as well as music to render over the final video creation

Anyone who wants to be IN the game will have to get clips from which I can extract screenshots, or pictures from different angles (sideview, overhead, rearview, front view), doing different things (sitting, walking, running, etc.) so that they can be used for in game animation.

And as always, storyline ideas, etc.

I've always thought about making a hg game. I'm actually pretty experiencen in game creation. I was thinking more like a series of stunt related minigames.

What kinda games have you made? Any tips you have from similar projects would be extremely helpful as well. I've made very basic games, but this will be a much larger project than anything I've worked on.

I've never used C++ so I can't really help you on that part. :/

I've decided to do 3d on this project. I've started building the game engine in OpenGL. Once I get the engine up and running, then I'm going to work on the story line a bit more. Then I'll start really getting in depth into the actual gameplay. Still lots of work to do, but I figured I would give an update.
