Cloverfield.
Amazing. Totally lived up to and exceeded my expectations. I loved the handling of the character/monster balance, and you got just enough exposure of the protagonists to identify with and care about them without forgetting that there's a fucking 30-storey skinny-legged motherfucker tearing shit up.
Special effects were nothing short of stunning. Plus the design and implementation of the monster itself really stuck with me, leaving a sort of lasting impact even now. I don't wanna sound like a pretentious cunt, but after watching, I looked up details about the movie and so on, and found out that they intended for the monster to be just a baby: young, scared and lost in a strange, threatening place. That really was conveyed to me through the movie so I think they did a great job characterising the monster in that respect.
I think it's a love-it-or-hate-it flick but I was definitely and vastly impressed. One that I will be watching many times over.

I didn't really get how everything worked out in it either.. I mean how everyone was infected in the first place but that aside I enjoyed it. The hand camera thing was a little poorly executed as well.. I'm comparing this to Alien Abduction and there they wouldn't show anything when they rewinded the tape but here they showed all rewinding effects that weren't that well made either. Minor detail I know but it bugged me a little since the rest of the movie was so "realistically" filmed like it was captured directly from the tape they filmed..
edit: I liked the fact that it was set in Barcelona too since I'm going there in a month to live in a hostel hoping it to be something similar to the house in this movie.

WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS:
Really liked it, but thought it would have been a much cooler ending to either leave it as the helicoptor crashing, or when it's just the two main characters, all of a sudden blood starts dripping out of here eye.
But sweet film none the less.
