It's powered from the battery of the cam and its so much better, you can see like an extra 20 metres+ in total darkness using nightshot.

I have a little sony cam like you had originaly but mines the HC20, and I have the HC85 with hot shoe. both with "colour" nightshot.

im going to need something to boost the low lighting winter brings

It fits them so your HC85 will be compatable.

I bought the wrong one which is why I'm selling this one off for cheap so if I opened it I wouldn't have a camera that is capable of showing it working for you.

But the specs guarantee up to 100 feet with a definate 25 metres at least.

alright I see, yeah I'll take it off your hands in that case, I dont really have anything to lose seeing as winters here already and its too dark to film. might find some use for it for afew months until I get the Canon HV20
