the next two games are in edmonton, so they will have the fans behind them. the fans in edmonton are amazing. just like having another player out on the ice.
the last three times edmonton has played there the fans were so loud the opening singer had to stop singing the national anthem and let the fans sing. its unreal.

There's a story about how some kids were playing on the ice with a rubber ball but being round, it kept flying into a window in a nearby store, so the old man who owned the shop got tired of this and cut the rubber ball into being flat (=puck) so that it wouldn't rise from the ice.

Some say that it evolved from a game native indians would've played on the ice with a rock and braches.
Some theories take the game to the Netherlands where people have always skated on the canals.

And the reason to change goalies after a loss doesn't always have to be because of bad goaltending. It can be just a maneuver to wake the team up. Especially when Conklin and Markkanen aren't that far from each other in the Oilers depth chart. Anyway, Conklin screwed up in game 1 so I guess he wasn't even a choice for Mc T for game 3

Although I have to disagree on the defense. I think they have sick potential there with Regehr, Hamrlik, Phaneuf and even Leopold

I'm angry with them right now, I had Phaneuf<3, Leopold and Amonte for picks in my hockey pool and they let me down, I expected Detroit and Calgary to go far (my two teams)

Phaneuf is insane! He's gonna be such a superstar. I remember seeing him for the first time in the World Juniors a couple of years back and he was already on a completely different level than the rest

nah didnt start in ontario, halifax im pretty sure, all of those above named cities had some of the first teams tho.

pretty sure hockey started as an adaptation of a similar game from scotland played on land. as far as natives playing it on ice, never happened. the natives invented lacrosse but never really played hockey as skates were hard to make with the technology they had.

later on when the fur trade and the hudsons bay company had the boom in upper canada and in what is now northern manitoba many traded pelts and furs, but not for skates..... mostly guns, and booze. sad story actually. my great great grandfather was one of these traders and apparently he brought a cheif an extra case of whiskey when trading, so in exchange the cheif gave him his daughter, so I am part metis from this. crazyshit, I think we should start a fuckin fur traders post again.

By natives I meant that they played a similar game on the ice (without skates though yeah), but they did use branches as sticks and a rock or a piece of wood as a thing to play with. They played it on the ice cause it was easier due to the flat surface. But it's just a legend that's never been proven to be correct.
The Scottish game you mentioned was called Hurling or something like that by the way.
