ok... I was supposed to buy myself a vx2100
but now, I'm sick to wait until I get the money for it..

I have around 1000$ and my cam very sucks (super vhs)
so.... do you have any suggestions for a good cam around 1000$

Yeh Mono knows why somoen would get that cam, it's a great cam....but u would have no need for it.

I'd suggest 2 of these, it would be more than enough for a homegrown group like your's. Someone may have a better idea tho.

What makes them better than Mini DV? Anything?
I need a new cam asap really, but can't find any of the cams I liked too buy, in UK shops.

I'm not hijacking your thread Domm, but I'm kinda in the same boat.

There is no loss in quality like on a MiniDV. But that could mean that you can only record a certain amount at a time, but certainly as much as 1/2 DV tapes could hold which is like a days worth of filming anyway in best quality.

EDIT: Wait, 30GB is like 3-5 hours of high quality footage.

3-5?! If it's like Tivo, it'll be hundreds of hours. Stick with MiniDV for now.

spend around 500-600 on a nice mini DV, and then spend the rest to make it nicer with a mic, add on handle, light, tapes, tripod, camera bag, and shit like that.

PV-GS300

But I can't find them anywhere, although I can find Panasonic NV- GS250's, and the same with NV-GS300's, I'm guessing there just exactly the same, just a different name over here?
The NV ones arn't listed on camcorderinfo.com, but they look exactly the same on UK sites..... does anyone know if theres a difference, or, if they have just replaced the PV with NV?

seriously, you guys need to start getting ready for HD. within the next couple of years everything should be HD just about. I'm in the same situation with getting a car, what should I do? because of gas prices and within 4-5 years I think we'll be using alternative energy sources for cars, so should I buy a nice gas car or buy something cheap and wait...

Yeah, but, you can get a just as good/better Mini DV cam for like nearly half the price, really.

DVD Players have just about knocked out VHS players/tapes now, that took like 5, 6... 7 years? and people have pretty much only just stopped using VHS tapes now.

Plus, you can't really benefit from the HD quality if you don't have like a HD TV/ computer monitor, right? That will be another year at least until more or less everyone has a HD compatiable TV and other things...

When the time comes HD cams will be half the price and alot better.
By then we will all have pretty much double the amount of money, well in terms of spending money maybe.

A car is a different situation though...

The cam isn't even true HD either, if you're a professional, you wouldn't even think about sony's hdv cam.

my friend has a GL2 so I can tell you honest opinions.

the dvc20 has a better overall quality in low light and it beats the GL2 in almoost every field. the one thing that is apparent is that the GL2 has WAY better audio pickup.

I would suggest buying a mic if you get a GL2.
