So the other day I got this email from 'paypal' saying my account has been flagged and that I need to verify my information or my account will be deactivated. So I clicked the linked and it took me to what appeared to be the paypal website, I logged in and filled in my credit card info as it asked.
Well a few days later I get an email from the real paypal telling me my account has been disabled due to my credit card being reported stolen. I dont even know what the fuck thats about, but I went back and checked out the original email and site...and realized it was fake.
This is the site -
http://405542345:82/login/index.php. I didnt notice the lack of 'paypal' being in the URL at the time..
Type in any email address and any password, reguardless of whether or not you use a real email address and pass, it will take you to a form wanting your info...
So yeah, they didnt get any of my money, I dont know why but they didnt. So I closed my account and Im fine now, but fuck. I have to admit that thats a pretty good scam.
Is there anyway I can find out who these people are or where theyre located? I wanna do some damage.

I got the same shit, I started to fill it out till I relized pay pal wouldnt do some shit, and that my paypal was working just fine when I tried using it for an ebay purchase, so I didnt send it......

I got this about 2years ago, I didnt fill it out as I didnt have my card on me, I didnet get round to it then got a real email warnin me of this...or iu went on the website and they had a warning...

That's scary. Thanks for the tip. I have always thought that if the sender's adress has seemed somewhat legit, it has always been enough to convince me that the mail itself is trustworthy too.

I think you can also tell its not real by it saying dear paypal member and not using your name, wheras paypal and ebay will put your name.

Spoof sender address, can be done quite easily.
This kind of scam is known as Phishing, a lot of these kind of scams are done in Nigeria.

Any idea why the never jacked any money from me? And why the real paypal randomly sent me a message 2 days later saying my account is disabled because my card reported stolen? I only had $2.00 in my account lol, maybe thats why.

No idea, the only reason I can think of is that they found out who they were and arrested them? Only the scammer would know that your card was stolen, so if they found out whos cards were stolen than it wouldve been reported stolen. Hence why no money was taken either.

I used to get these before I got paypal, so it was pointless, and now whenever I get an e-mail, it's so shitty. It's from some e-mail address that doesn't even look real, so I send them nasty pics as a reply.

Had it a few times, you can tell if its real or not with how they start.
Official Paypal uses "Dear Mr/Mrs (your surname)"
Notice that says dear customer or some shit.

I get about 5 emails a day from different addresses similar to that. The only ONE way you know that if its real or not is if they refer to you as your full name, not dear sir/madam. But yer, unlucky man, just good that you didnt get any money took.

damn, for so many of you to get these email...this must be a pretty big operation. They must be making shitloads cause it is rather convincing and easy to fall for.
by the way, for everyone thinking it was dumb of me to believe this even though it didnt have a paypal.com in the URL. Well, check this out....When I got an email from the REAL paypal telling me my card has been stolen, it wanted me to click this link and enter all my info to verify that it's not. Now this is actually legit, but look at the domain, it has nothing to do with paypal -
