I know what RAM is, and I know I need more of it. Everytime Im editing a big project with lots of raw footage, my programs always freeze up, and just yeah. What is a good, but not too pricey RAM upgrade? and how do I install it and are there certain versions/types for different computers?
Please someone school me up on this.
Oh and just a random question for people who have edited/editing full movies:
How much footage did you have on your computer? I have like almost 30 GBs...

How much ram do you have now? 512 works fine for me.
everytime I right click and click properties explorer freezes, so I'll tell you when I restart.

Start> Run> then type "DXDIAG" in the field
And I have 290 GB on my PC

I had the same problem, I now have 1256mb, just remember when you buy a upgrade it must match the code on the chip of ram that you alredy have.

yates, Right click "My Computer" > "Properties" > Right where it says Computer: It will list all your Processor & Ram.

they buy two sticks of 512. I have two 256 sticks, and it works alright. Just because my computer is SD ram, so I had to get whatever I could. It works.

Depends where you get it, what brand it is, and how good it is, but it'll probably cost at least 200 to 250 if you go to the store. Online you can probably get shit cheaper.
I'd need to see your computer to tell you what kind you need though. Ask shepel.

In the future, would anyone be willing to buy something offline for me, then I would send them a money order to pay them back. Preferabbly in the US...

also, yes you can free up ram. I have a program called System Mechanic which has a feature called, "Free RAM" or something and it Defragments your ram and makes your pc run smoother and closes all programs un-needed to be open that uses ram here and there.

I have 384mb of ram, and I hardly have problems unless I run a program that uses a lot of cpu power for more than about 3 hours. which is rare, I'm saving up to get a new computer.
