need help converting vhs vids to dvd or your computer?

While talking to Buck Wild he told me about how he is buring his VHS to DVD using his dvd recorder.

Hook up your VCR and DVD Recorder to your tv, have the VHS playing while your DVD Recorder records.

I told Rico about this and he is looking into the exact same thing for the Arse Marks VHS (that means Arse 1-5 and 7-8 will soon be available on DVD).

Just thought I would let you guys know just in case you had some old VHS tapes of your footage you wanted to use (for those who don't understand when you burn your footage to the dvd from the dvd recorder you then rip it to your computer).

Is there anyway to get footage from VHS tapes to your computer some how?
Thats what I could really use right now, I cant find any simple guides on the net at the moment.

I could just get a DVD Recorder, but ive only just got a new DVD Player, and cant afford a recorder for, well, months.
Anyone know how to do this?

I just said that, you burn the vhs to the dvd, then you put the dvd in your comp and rip it.

recording dvd players cost a fortune, like 300+.

For vhs converting: Some more advanecd cameras have analog in, check if you or any of your friends have it, if so, use it. Bus as that is quite rare feature I´d say you go with TV-card for your computer. TV-card is card for your computer that has analog in plug, that way you can watch TV from your computer, and you can bpviusly hook your vhs palyer to your comp too. Then just get a recording program and capture.

Or you could send your tapes to Buck, pay him a little cash and have him send you the tapes and dvds back.

Or then you could just use a company that does the same?

I dont have a DVD Recorder, I have a DVD Player. But you didnt say anything about how to burn a VHS Tape to a DVD, without a DVD Recorder.

FMS, how's the quality?

FMS mixed up reocrder and player, buy a tv-card, shouldnt be expensive.

Buy a card that allows you to input video, and then record it. TV cards won't suffice as they don't do this.

ever tvcard taht I´ve seen do that... But then Im not expert, so I say at least some tvcards have this feature so consult your local comp delah.

Ok, im gonna look into some TV Cards then, whats the average price for a decent one? So I know im not getting ripped off

Also, what be a huge help; is there anyway of just recording off the TV straight to Mini DV Tapes?
Or can a TV card do that also?

Basically I cant really be assed buying a TV Card, Id rather just record from the TV to Mini DV Tapes.

I can record onto my Mini DV Tapes from my DVD Player easily, I use the A/V Wire for that, and Ive tryed plugging the A/V Wires into my VHS so the picture from the Tape will appear on my LCD Screen on my cam, but it doesnt, although it does when I plug the A/V Cable into my DVD Player and into my Cam.

Yeah so any simple way of just recording from VHS or the TV, to Mini DV Tapes using my cam?

This is not always the case, I just recently got one for $90, usually there around $150


I also have a TV Tuner card for my computer with Coaxial, and RCA plugins, then you would just hook the VCR to that.

Then ask pay buck to do it.

You can get these empty vhs cases that you stick your high 8 tapes in and you can then play in the vcr.

That's what I'm trying to do as well. I've searched the internet but can't find any simple guides either. I created a topic about it - here - and have had some helpful responses, although it is still all a bit confusing.

The method suggested by funk master steven involves the use of DVD to go from VHS to computer. I'm trying to find out how to transfer footage direct. I've been told this will work:

VCR -> three RCA cables -> analogue-to-digital convertor -> IEEE 1394 (unless a standard USB would work and could be used instead of this? I don't know) -> computer

There are probably other ways to go about it. I think you can do it as long as you have five things - RCA cables, ADC, firewire, a video capture card, and a video card which is capable of taking a VCR's video and audio as input (unless the last two are the same thing? )

good lord if you have rca hook ups which every camera we have bought in the last 4 years has you should be able to hook it up to a vcr and make a vhs tape and take it to someones house who has a burnable dvd player/vcr so start knocking on some doors, call your aunts and uncles, ask friends at school, it's not that outrageous of a technology anymore, you can get them for under 400 dollars so you should be able to find atleast 1 person you know who has the damn thing you just gotta get off the god damn internet to find it

THERE IS NO 8mm/VHS ADAPTER! 8mm/Hi8/miniDV tapes cannot, under any circumstances, be played in a VHS VCR.
