Microsoft had plans to partner with Timewarner, timewarner basically own AOL and are a huge ISP. Evidently google with their conflict against Microsoft and vice versa purchased a 5% stake. Really smart move from google, real dumb one from timewarner, as they could've made a shit load more from MS. 5% sold at $1BN

wait why would it be good to buy a piece of AOL? Aren't they the shittiest ISP out there? I used AOL for 6 years. Their services are all over priced and their DSL is especially shitty. I thought AOL was gonna go downhill with all the better ISP's lowering their rates for broadband..like SBC?

im currently with AOL...I hate it but im on a 12month contract Image file not present in the recovered backup

AOL are good for newbies, they are a very profitable company especially as they advertise their products so well and have a great TOS.
Time Warner, their owner however is a great company. Google did make a good investment. q

yeah aol blows, but if google play their cards right they can make a shed load of money, fuck off from aol and bring something better out =]
atleast thats what I would do.
And a google OS sounds weird, would it be based on a linux/unix kernel or what?

but when theyre customer service branch is somewhere in bangalore then they become somewhat not so great!
and when they say sorry no you cant connect your xbox to the internet AOL becomes the DEVIL!!!
