I wonder what it is about hockey that causes fights to break out more so than in other contact sports.

I guess cause its a more physical and mental game. Tempers flare easier, plus the refs let them.

I've been playing hockey all my life. It's because you skate around at high speeds with sticks and every fucking time you try to do something there's always some asshole poking you with his stick, or hooking you with it, or bashing you across the head with it. Hook someone in the balls and they drop everything and charge at you. I've been tackled down from behind for doing that before haha. Most guys that play hockey have attitude problems. I never got into fights, I just spent my time crushing people into the boards... causing them to attack me.
What I don't understand is how these guys can get so pissed off and not run after another guy swinging their stick at their head. I wouldn't only because you'd never see the ice again lol
Now when I play Rugby it's a lot more friendly. They come out looking all pissed, hit you as hard as they can and if they hurt you, they actually apologize. I was shocked thinking a more violent sport would kill me and it turned out to be just a friend rough game.

And, I've never really watched hockey before, so are they atually allowed too go fight then? The refs just stood there.

Lol appologise for making a hit? Sure you're not playing tag or something? I know what you mean though you can leave it all on the field. Apart from this one kid who I actually thought was going to rip my heart out and feast on it before my eyes. We shoed him cause he was on the wrong side of the ruck ( basicaly stamped the fuck out of him cause he was in the way ) and he just flipped got up and just came for me for bout 5 mins he kept tryin to get at me, 4 of his team mates had to pin him down to the floor to calm him down.
But I've never apologised to someone for nailing them, and I wouldn't expect it back... As they say if you don't go in hard, it's not a tackle it's an insult ^^
11 December 2005, 12:53 UTC#17
In every sport you leave your grudges on the field.
When you play seriously, no opponent is your pal tho. you dont have to feel the urge to rip their hearts out and feast on them, you sure as hell wont mingle and tickle eachother like some fucking pansies.
You give it 110% on the field and no one likes a guy who plays dirty and brakes the rules(the written or the unwritten) But if he says sorry then it should be ok.
The way to go is to play hard as fuck but play clean.
11 December 2005, 13:37 UTC#18
There's a difference between gamesmanship and sportsmanship... Sometimes playing dirty works to your advantage, not cheating as shuch but more cheep shots and intimidation. When I play I hate every person who plays against me, theres nothing wrong with that because if you didnt you wouldnt be able to play well. You gotta have something that gives u the edge over the other person and that's wanting it more. and doing anythin to put them off trying it. Late tackles, cheap shots and big hits. Its what u gotta do when you're playing a competitive game at a high level,

from what iv seen from hockey fights, they let you fight until you slip and land on the ice, then the pounce on you haha

Hockey is easily the best sport there is. You just gotta love the speed, the contact, the great plays and the cold atmosphere of this genial sport.
I am in love with this sport. Why else would I have kept on playing it for 12 years

I love a good fight, but the thing that made it funny was that the officials just stood by and watched

Aah, okay. I always thought for some reason that it would be something else. I just kept on playing for an unknown reason. But I guess you must be right. I might have lost something crucial deep inside the empty caverns of my brain..

hockey is the best sport ever created
Image file not present in the recovered backup and yeah the refs just let the guys fight... I don't think anybody is stupid enough to get between 2 guys with tempers like that. Imagine 1 of the refs trying to stop the fight before they have had a little go.

The referees do not interfere for as long as the fight is equal and the both fighter's are still in shape to fight. They allow fights more in the NHL than in Europe, because sports violence is what the average american wants to see anyways, but you get good fights here too occasionally
Oh yeah, and the clip was ok. I've seen much harder fights though Image file not present in the recovered backup

11 December 2005, 17:26 UTC#28
listen to the all mighty ben

Bencka has seen fights that would make an average man puke, shit themselves, cry, faint and become mentally challenged.
11 December 2005, 19:39 UTC#29
that was pritty sweet man
12 December 2005, 04:58 UTC#30
They let the fights keep going for two reasons. #1. Americans want to see it. #2. The refs don't want to mess with those guys. Hockey players esp in the NHL are HUGE! I may play with some semi-pro players in a high end pickup game or the offseason leagues they have here but I ain't gonna piss any of them off. I'm more worried about the puck in the net.
Saying the thing about the apology with Rugby was stated wrong I believe. I wasn't saying we were all like women out there worrying about each other. I got a try once and kept running so I could get the ball in the middle and some guy came out of nowhere and swept out my legs from under me. I think that's illegal? Whatever it was it fucking hurt like hell. And I mentioned it because I was surprised someone in a mean sport would say "Oh shit dude you alright?" afterwards. I'm too used to hockey where players take down numbers and go hunting for you in later games and are out there to assassinate you. I think people respect each other more in Rugby. That's why hockey can be such a pain in the ass.
benCKa, you been playing for 12 years eh? I think I'm on about 17 or 18. Depends when you officially count it and how old I was. I think I had just turned 5 when I officially joined a league. I lived on a pond my whole life though so I've been skating as long as I've been walking and I'm not kidding when I say that. I was running by age 9 months and skating by 11 months. Sure they were double bladed skates but hey, I learned pretty quick haha.
