Yes because stopping someone taking a depressant will make them more depressed, may have gotten withdrawal symptoms but hes better for it now. If he kept going at the rate he did he'd be dead by now. And yeah people do generally get older, despite their spouses. I think it might have been all of the drugs and shit he's done in his life that turned him into a doddering fool, not his wife.
