for me its spdst 2, the style appeals more too me. Although I will probaly also pick up Destray just because it is something that looks completly new and fresh.

This episode of fawlty towers focuses (as do many of the episodes of the sitcom) on sex, which Basil is lacking and his sexual frustration leads too many of the situations that are the focus of many of the story lines. The main story line in this episode is pretty much basil trying too catch on of his guests at it in his room. Along with this a dominant part of the story is the way basil acts around Dr Abbott after basil finds out he is a psychiatrist, and how paranoid basil is that the Dr is analyzing him on his and Sybil’s sex life.

The episode opens on Basil and Sybil on two phones the way their conversations link into each others so that it could be that they are speaking to each other gives us the first piece of humour of the episode. Then a bit of a ‘ladies man’ called Mr Johnson walks in he immediately catches Sybil’s attention and she begins to flirt with Mr Johnson, who represents everything that Sybil wants in a man, and everything that Basil doesn’t and isn’t. This sets off Basil’s remarks about Mr Johnson being lower in the evolutionary chain and that a man should be more than something to just be looked at, a real man should be respected. This makes Sybil remark about a man in Basil’s eyes should be more like Earl Haig, These arguments between Sybil and Basil occur a lot in this episode, this signifies the shifting of power between the two sexes and them always trying too get one over on each other. In reality Basil rarely ever gets the power, but if he does it’s a short lived moment, for example, Basil is very pleased with his run of insults towards Sybil about Mr. Johnson and ‘celebrates’ with a monkey impression only too be caught acting the fool by the two new guests, the Abbott’s.

Once he finds out the two new guests are Doctors Basil continues too embarrass himself by showing his stupidity and naive traditional male views when trying to comprehend that a female is also a Doctor. This shows how traditional and stuck in the past Basil is, and this represents the beliefs and attitudes of a stereotypical male at the time.

After he returns from showing the new ‘upper class’ guests personally too their room, like the kiss arse he is he returns too the reception where Mr. Johnson had been making a phone call whilst trying to ignore Sybil who was continuing too try and flirt with him. Basil then continues too insult Mt Johnson by comparing him too the Abbott’s, and making more primate impressions, these jibes at Mr. Johnson show the lack of touch Basil has with different cultures and ages groups of the time. And represents the male gender as a ignorant, un excepting, naïve sex.
