yes it does. Everytime I had a virus/trojan and when I do it, it works perfect again.

so how do I do it, and what exactly does it to to my files?

Have your installation cd in the drive. Change the bios settings to boot from cd and there should be an option to format the hard drive and install a fresh copy of the OS

will it re-formatting delete all the non-essential files? eg. music, video, pictures
07 December 2005, 15:48 UTC#8
It will delete everything.

If you have a CD burner/DVD Burner. I Suggest you burn all your pics, music, videos, etc on it because they will ALL be gone. Trust me though, It's worth it.

chances are if you format yourself you will fuck things up just as much as the virus is, if you have a name brand computer use a restoration disc.
if not put the windows cd in, restart the computer, go through the setup and when it talks about having Windows already installed just delete the partition and start over again, you will lose ALL Data though.

Next time, install windows into a new partition that's about 10gb in size and store everything else elsewhere. Then all you've got to do is format that partition instead of having to copy all the other stuff.
