What are you asking for for crimbo? and I'm mainly talking bout smaller gifts instead of like psps and cameras and expensive shit like that.
Cos I want the following things:

Because external can be brought anywhere and makes a nice backup.
I got a 300GB one (even though it says 320 on the box) and it's fucking sweet! Great for backing up all my video.

Get one that's USB 2.0 or firewire and it'll be so fast you wont notice a big difference.

I want an external hardrive and soon so I can backup all my videos, I'm worried about my comp dying and all my footage going with it.
If I have enough after getting one of those I need to get some new editing software, if adobe 6.0 keeps fucking up on me im post poning the release of the dvd untill I get vegas and can make the video glitch free.

It's more likely than you think, especially with aging hardware.
I'd get one as soon as you can, data could probably be recovered if it was lost by one of your 1337 mates...but it's kinda best not to let it get to that stage, especially if you've spent a long time on your footage already. I reccomend you back the most important stuff to CD just in case.

Should do, my old HDD's are still running strong after 5 years heavy use. My Server at the office, has an HDD that is like 10 years old, and it still runs okay. But anyway, you should see if you can pick up a second hand external HDD, or even just buy an internal as they are cheaper to back stuff up onto.

Upload your stuff if you can. I know it sucks with speeds but its better then it getting lost.
get some nice server and just use that. There are tools for using Googles gmail space as a harddrive... or buy a webserver and use that.
Most of my photos and importent stuff I backup online now. I think also Yahoo have some service now.
