I wrote this really long message for viva la fenix on experiences I have had doing the 20 or so shows I have done this year, and since it's so damn long I thought I would throw it out there for the few groups that are doing this. I know it's not that big in hg, but it seems to becoming somewhat of a trend. so here is the advice I had for them and I am going to share it with all. the first few sentences were directed straight towards them, but is still good info!

well theres always going to be a mess, which is why you have to have a good clean up crew, always bring your own broom and dust pan, and clean up right away when you are done, and make sure you clean it good. at the same time don't let the venue owners get too much over you cause if they think they can walk all over you, they will. which is why I ended up not performing on the stage a few times! they think they can just make you do the monkey dance
This is how we usually start off our show, we do something simple that we have done a thousand times and is interesting but not to hard core. bring free shirts and dvd's and throw some shit out after the first stunt. talk to the crowd while you are doing it. get them interested.....than for your 2nd stunt do something painful and hardcore, but quick. leave a long core stunt like the light bulbs till the end. I mean we go through whole shows without using fire even once. but if we can we do use it
after your second stunt, the really core one that gets everyones attention, go into a series of stunts that you have set up and are well planned, each member should know ahead of time where they are supposed to be positioned
so if one member is getting kicked in the balls, pre organize not only who is getting kicked, but also who is doing the kicking, same with any stunt, know who has the rubbing alcohol, and who has the lighter! every manuever of the show should be planned out well. the mic and talking part should be mainly spur of the moment, don't plan out word for word what you are going to say cause it will look way to acted out. try and have a breather between each stunt, certain members are going to be good at certain things, don't just let anyone get on the mic.
some members might be really core when filming the dvd's in the backyard, but might not be that strong at doing stunts for life shows, sometimes because they are even to core to be able to do their stunts in doors.
If you mess up a stunt more than once, and it's not really that hardcore of a stunt and not that crutial to your show.....don't drag it on and try it a third time cause if you mess up more than twice.......your gonna hear the boo's!
Don't be afraid to acknowledge when something goes wrong.......just tell the crowd you fucked up in a funny way, laugh about it and they will probably laugh with you
To fill up a 20 minute set, you will need roughly 15 stunts, more or less depending on how well you can work the crowd.
90% of the people at shows we do have no idea what the fuck is in store for them, and very very very few people have ever seen a live show like the ones put on by homegrown groups. So even if the stunts aren't all crazy as shit to people here on homegrown, the average person is gonna think your are fucking out of your mind for even breaking 1 tube on your back, or putting staples into your face.
In our sets I usually run it like this
safety but funny stunt first
second most core stunt next to get attention
a mediocore stunt next stapling, tasers....
than break some shit, get messy
than maybe some kind of arial or jump, flip??
break some more shit
safety stunt (something you know well)
Fire!!!
Break some shit
Finally! Do something crazy last like your light tubes or lighting someone on fire!
than exit the stage don't stand around infront of everyone looking all unprofessional, Big groups and Bands exit the stage after saying a short farewell for a reason, it leaves a sense of untouchableness on the crowd.
come back out in 5 min and pick up your mess
