The Nashville teen killed Saturday night after "surfing" on the roof of a car got the idea from the TV show Jackass, Metro police said yesterday.
Garrett Shawn Nipper, 16, of Bell Road, died after striking the pavement and a guardrail when he fell off the car, police said.
Joseph Waterman, 16, of Oak Forest Drive, was driving the Saturn SL2 sedan well above the posted 20 mph speed limit when Nipper fell from the car in Two Rivers Park at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Police believe Nipper was lying on the roof when he fell. Waterman told police he didn't immediately know Nipper had fallen off and continued driving for a short distance. He then turned around and came upon Nipper in the roadway. The car belonged to Waterman's father.
The district attorney's office will receive a crash report later this week to determine if any charges will be place against Waterman, police said.

Car surfing is stupid, it's a shame that this kinda thing has to happen for lessons to be learned. Roof surfing's not only dangerous, it's almost inevitably fatal. How is someone meant to stand up against the wind rushing against them.

I know. But everything to do with stunts now is going to be blamed on jackass.
Some kid could be playing frisbee barefoot on the road with glass on it and he will step on it and have to get stiches and they will blame it on jackass saying he was attempting a dangerous stunts or some bullshit.

Only thing I ever seen Roof Surfing on was the film "Teen Wolf" with Michael J Fox. I never seen it on Jackass.

Eh, Knoxville did it in one of the Big brother videos, he got hit by the car and rode a bit on the roof, and in one of the ckys someone was roofsurfing on a van at "100 mph." That's no excuse to actually go out and do it though, you shouldn't be able blame someone's death on a video or tv show, when it was their own stupidity that lead to their demise. Anyway, I saw something about this on CNN, some dumbass wrecked his pickup into a telephone pole when he was standing up inside the cab and just jumped out when it rode up onto a curb.

every time we fucking hear about someone dying from this shit, its a fucking car, atleast the last 3 times in a row!! and I've heard of alot more before I started coming to hgforums about people and cars, they are not toys. just this month alone, kid jumps out of a car going 30 mph.........dead, than somebody falls off a roof of a car probably going about the same.........dead.
I love how gman said that is sucks this is the only way lessons are learned, well guess again, with the number of you playing with cars.....it's only a matter of time before this kind of tragedy moves to homegrown........if it's a certain person I could really careless, but I just hope it doesn't happen to anyone else

It's really annoying that they are still looking for things to blame for one kids accident. I can't recall an accident in homegrown that wasn't blamed on something else.

In CSI: Las vegas.. some guys were doing Roof Surfing and filming it.. for a "reality show".
The episode was about this guys filming stunts, and then one of them got killed..
