Has anyone heard of the "Alternate reality game" they used to promote Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero?
Like hidden messages on tour shirts, USB drives found at gigs with pre-release leaks on them, Thermal coated discs that reveal messages when heated up, Running samples of static through spectographs to get a visual representation of the sound - Usually a phone number, American flage, etc.
It's trippy as all hell, I've sat here all day at work reading up on it and it's so darn convoluted, Ingenious way to market an album though. The game's still running, apparently it goes 18 months, interacting with fans worldwide, even taking place in the form of secret gigs, etc.
Go give it a look on wiki if you're bored.
