Um, yes?
Nah, but seriously, what's the best way to exercise to just have some muscle tone? I don't really care if I'm stronger than anyone else, I just hate looking like a fatass and my jeans getting tighter. Does that make me gay?
Try for cardio 2-3 days a week (aim for 40 min to an hour if you can) plus weights 2-3 days a week on separate days. Eat regularly, but no too much (only eat big to get big). 5-6 small meals a day as opposed to 3 larger ones. Adequate carbs before working out, but good carbs, not refined carbs. Wait a good hour or so after eating or you wont digest properly. Protein after working out (don't get sugary supplements, check the labels). Take a good multi-vitamin everyday, lots of fresh fruit and veggies.
You must include fat in your diet too, but not saturated or trans. Like carbs, not all fats are created equally. They are important for making hormones which in the long-run, will good for your metabolism and making muscle. This is what's meant by a balanced diet. Follow the pyramid they taught you in school.
When lifting, usual rules; lift enough to do 10-12 reps per set for 3 sets (as Wilbur said, not too heavy though). Don't over work muscles either. Allow for rest. This is the part when they grow. Make sure to work ALL muscles too, not just the ones that 'look good'. More over-all muscle tone=faster resting metabolism.
The rest should fall into place
