We had a trip to another city in Hungary. The most dangerous thing was to go up to a minaret, this one:

<img src="http://eger.hotelhungary.com/images/minaret.jpg">

It is 40 metres high, and there is a winding (spiral) staircase inside of it, 97 stairs, no handrail.
Each stair is about 30 centimetres (1 feet) high, and it is very steep. The admission fee was less than a euro, so, we thought, why not. There were no warning signs. A couple who just arrived back to the ground said that it was a one time experience, they will never ever want to go back up there.

So, we payed the fee, and started to climb up. The space was tight, the stairs were slick, the staircase was so steep that I put my hands on the stairs in front of me, as I climbed up. After about 5 steps I realized that it is quite dangerous, one mistake, and I can roll down on the stone staircase and possibly dieing in the injuries. But my friend was climbing in front of me, so I've followed him. I didn't count the stairs, so I had no idea how were we progressing. There were a few lightbulbs in the staircase, but some of them were out, so there were times when it was quite dark, it was more like feeling the stairs, not seeing them.

Then we arrived back to the sunlight, on the edge near the top. It was a 30 centimetres wide edge around the building, and a steel bar so no one can fall off. We looked around. I realized I have agoraphobia, but only if I look downside while moving. There was wind also, which made me feel unstable.

The trip down was even worse. While I could use my hands to support myself on the way up, It looked impossible to do so on the way down. And I could see the steep down staircase in front of me. My friend was even carrying a small bottle of water in his hand, so it must have been more difficult for him. He told me I could use my hands by leaning on the bottom of the staircase above my head, which made me more comfortable. So I always stepped down with my left leg, put my right leg next to the left, then repositioned my arms to the next steps above me, while keeping my back pushed to the wall, not to fall forward.

I arrived at the bottom slowly. My friend waited for me 2-3 times. it was great when we arrived back to the ground safely. I understood why the others went to the benches and sit down. I was quite tired. I still feel stiff in my right leg, which supported my weight on the way down.

One could break his/her neck easily with one bad step, by rolling down on the stairs. I was lucky I didn't. I bet you will say "I wish you did". I was afraid of dieing, which is not a common feeling in my life.

But this is the thread for the posts no one cares about....
