Because the Ditto could transform into a rock type pokemon, whilst battling a Water type pokemon .. BIG MISTAKE as Rock type are extreamly weak against water type.
Also the ditto could be a lower Level than the pokemon it was battling.

Yeah but the only tiem it would change to a weaker type one is if the trainer is a total retard and told it to. Other than that it was a kick as Pokemon.
