digital 8 or mini dv

we have filmed most of our footage on canons mini dv, and we have also filmed alot of footage on hi 8 but we need to get the footage from hi 8 on the computer I tried buying one of those converters but they are pieces of shit, so we are going to buy another shitty camera here soon, is there a big difference from the digital 8 to the mini dv, cause I could get literally a half hour of decent old school tpm footage for one of our dvd's if we buy this digital 8

not a big difference. tapes are bigger, that's about it.

I'm mainly worried about the quality of the footage, I know the tapes are bigger but is the picture quality the same pretty much??

Hi8 is kinda shitty, but digital8 is the same as most 1ccd miniDV cameras. sometimes even better.

I have a Sony Digital hi 8 and a canon mini DV and a panasonic mini DV the best cam out of the 3 is the Sony...

Its the Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV320 and it has the firewire port..

the cam is about 5 years old and works better than newer models if you guys see one for cheap I highly recomend you buy it......

More and more Mini DV cameras are offering an analog input that will convert the signal on the fly while capturing to your computer via Firewire. In other words, you hook the AV cables from your Hi8 to the analog input on the Mini Dv, and the Firewire from the Mini DV to your computer.

Canon is one of the lines of cameras that usually offers this. Check to see if the Canon Mini DV camera you have access to has this feature before you spend any money.

but remember if you do what adam suggested you will still need a camera that can play back the Hi8 tapes and feed them into the cannon.
