I have it. works fine as long as you use sony tapes and don't thrash it around.

Buy a case for it so it doesn't get broken.

Why does everyone get the really low models of the DCR-HCxx series.

I have the DCR-HC90E which is like 3.0 megapixel, widescreen, nightshot, etc. I think the lower 15 and 22 ones are like 500-800K - which is pathetic.

The Nightshot is going to be terrible on it.. all MiniDV has terrible Night Vision... its just brightened up the area around you and its really skippy and everything lags.

But the image stabalizer thing work good.. I got one on my new camera and even if you have a shit filmer the filming looks good.

Those cams are great. I have one of them apart from its the model up. I got mine for £400, so I guess for around £200 is good even for the lower version. The nightvision on my camera is good, if it is the same prinicple then it should do exactly what you want it to. But only for short range. You see its just one infrared LED that is the nightvision, thus it doesnt cover up to anything above a couple of metres or so. But still overall it should be a pretty good buy. I will also advise getting a sony camcorder pack I think its called, from argos. In that you get a couple of tapes, a sony camcorder case which is essential, and another infolithium battery which has been absolutely priceless when the primary bettery has failed on me.

I think it's the Sony minidv cameras that have the 'proper nightvision' mode as seen in DR's comeback video. The mode you're talking about is a longer exposure setting, where frame rate is sacrificed for more light to be picked up which yeah, looks shit.

Yes the sony mini dv cams actually do have the proper nightvision, as kane saide. They use an infrared LED for it, so no shit. Although it may sound lame 'just one led', its surprising bright and works good for me in pitch balck even from a couple of metres away.

Yeah, it means that on the picture there are 800 pixels, while say mine has 3,000. The less pixels the less detail to sharpness, colour, etc.
