What is the best way to back up a big site? There has to be a better way to do it than just selecting all your files and downloading them to a folder. I use smartFTP and it occasionally times out and shit, and when it does so, it's a bitch to figure out where I left off.
Isnt there a backup button...sorta like how you can buy an external Maxtor hard drive, install it, and click the back up button and it takes care of the rest...?
So far the way Ive been doing it is by copying individual folders 1 at a time but it's taking forever. If anyone knows a better and more efficient way please let me know.

I use smart ftp and when I had to reboot my pc I had to get all the files from my hosting, I just selected all the fuckers to downlaod one after another. I don't think with smartftp there is anyway of simultaeneously uploading/ downloading files. Yet, it may be an idea to try and look into creating a file queue or something along those lines. That way you could just set them to upload and they would do it one after another sort of thing.

that's reassuring, but I dont want to be called an idiot again for not backin up the site...just in case something bad and out of your control happens.
I think Im just gonna back up the key elements and blogs, not the videos and pictures. Thats what takes forever.

Honestly, I keep daily backups of the site now, in the server directories. Moving servers previously caused problems as neither me or Chris could access the internet. We have no plans to move again, if we need a bigger pipe Chris can upgrade, so honestly backing up is stupid.
