how do u make a forum popular? I wanna make a forum and some day have it as popular as hgf... if that could ever happen?
so how did g-man do it? and where did he get the arcade and live chat stuff from?

what kind of forum? cuz it depends.
for example a forum for photography: get the word out from photography sites.
if u want people to join give them a reason to, like I dont think people would join a random forum about nothing. make it about something people like to do or talk about.

but you have to have a theme to it for people to get into, like homegrown forums all the homegrown groups chill here and discuss shit, but we also do other things
if I made a forum...well actually I can't think of anything I would make it about in particular besides hg I don't do much else but film, and hg forums is a good filmers forum as well

me and rob thought about starting a forum for photoshop users, but it would be hard to compete with

I dont think a general talk about anything forum will do that great. like if HGF wasnt about homegrown I wouldnt of came here.
and a general forum would bring lots of different people with nothing really in common other then movies, tv and music.
to me a good forum is where people with one major thing in common come together and talk about it share it and debate it.

you do realize having a section on the forum to converse about general non-related topics, is what brings a forum together, if not then it's just everyone talking about a video clip that hasn't even been released yet, the video release section is looking a little dry, and if that was the only reason to this forum, there would be nothing.
your dream is about as equal to mr. luther king's. you can't have common interest without someone in the loop that doesn't get a goddamn thing, but is just there for the attention or the sole fact of talking about other things than a related topic.. it's the internet. not some AA meeting.
